EDWARDS, HURT posted by Pam Sutton on Monday, May 28, 2001

I am looking for information on Dr. James P. HURT and family. James P. HURT was born between 1845 - 1850 in GA (according to census records). Married to Mary M. L. EDWARDS (born ca. 1850 in AL) in Cleburne Co., AL in 1870. They appear in the 1880 census in Edwardsville, again in the 1910 Cleburne Co., Edwardsville census with son Homer (born ca. 1883 AL) and daughter Birtha (born ca. 1891 AL). This census lists the mother hs given birth to 6 children, 4 still living. They appear again in 1920 Cleburne Co., Edwardsville census with son Homer. In 1920, Dr. James P. HURT is listed as 71 years old, Mary as 65. From this point I have been unable to find this family. I have checked with the county probate office and there are NO death or probate records for HURT in Cleburne Co. I have been unable to locate a cemetery listing for them. I am at a brick wall. Can anybody help? Homer would be my great grandfather. I have no idea what happened to him or his parents or who his siblings were. BARNETT, GABRIEL, GENTRY, HARLEY, JOHNSON, LANGLEY, SHELNUT, SKINNER posted by Glenda Gentry Spears on Tuesday, July 10, 2001

I am looking for any information concerning Joseph R. GENTRY b. Aug.17, 1827 d.abt 1895. He married Mary Elizabeth LANGLEY on Jan. 7, 1849 in Campbell Co., GA. They moved from Campbell Co., GA to Benton Co., AL in 1850. They were in Russell County in 1860 then were found on a Homestead Land Patent in 1870-1876 in Cleburne Co., AL. They moved to Cullman County, AL just before 1880 where their daughter, Amanda got married in their house on Dec. 16, 1880. Their children were: Martha L., James Wyatt GENTRY, Mary Elizabeth, Amanda, and Phoebe Ann. Jamesy Wyatt GENTRY married Sarah "Sallie" SHELNUT (spelling varies). I believe Sarah SHELNUT is descended from Andrew SHELNUT and Elizabeth GENTRY. James and Sarah lived in Cleburne Co., AL in 1870 and had their first born son there. They probably moved to Cullman Co. with his father, Joseph. Sometime between 1887 and 1893, they moved to Benton, Saline Co., Arkansas where my family have been since. I would love to find out Joseph's parentage. Other relatives who lived in the Cleburne County area are: SKINNER, BARNETT, GABRIEL and LANGLEY. Also in the Walker County area relatives were: JOHNSON. Mary Elizabeth LANGLEY was related to James Wyeth LANGLEY who married Eatha Malinda SHELNUT. Eatha lived next door to Joseph GENTRY and Mary while James Was in the military during the Civil War. I believe Joseph was also in the military so it's possible that the sister-in-laws were staying pretty close together. I believe Joseph and Mary died in Cullman County in Walter Community and were buried in Duck River Cemetery near Duck River Baptist Church. It has been said that Joseph's oldest daughter, Martha L. GENTRY was born in Ranburne or she lived there after she married Samuel P. SKINNER. Samuel's father is Isaac H. SKINNER. Isaac married Mary Anne HARLEY in 1824. Any information would be much appreciated! Glenda
