BRIDGES, GARRETT, HOWELL posted by Patty Bridges Parker on Thursday, December 30, 1999

I'm looking for information on my gr-grandparents, Rev. Jamems Madison GARRETT, and Judge Bluford Butler BRIDGES. Their children married to become my grandparents. Rev GARRETT lived in Edwardsville/Heflin area, and was a circuit minister. There is some evidence that he may also have worked for the railroad at one time, and some family believe he ran a dry goods store. He was born in Carroll County about 1851, but believe he died in Cleburne County May 31, 1900. I have been trying to locate an archived newspaper for an obit which would help me locate his burial place. Judge BRIDGES was born in Calhoun County, but his children were born in Oak Level AL. His son, William Howell BRIDGES (1877-1929) was the editor of the Standard Times just before he married my grandmother(Leila GARRETT- 1883-1970) in Dec 1899 in Edwardsville (Rev Baird officiated). Judge BRIDGES died in Jun or Jul 1924, probably in Calhoun County, as he was a judge in Anniston/Piedmont area. His 2nd wife, Hudson Alice Howell BRIDGES, was the dgt of Hudson HOWELL, and the grandgt of William HOWELL. Believe one of the HOWELL's was a law partner to BB BRIDGES, and could possible have taken him in when his mother died. Would also like to locate an area newspaper for an obit notice on BB BRIDGES.
