BLAKE, FOWLER, HAND, JOHNSON posted by Judy Fowler Kilgore on Wednesday, February 9, 2000

Seeking ancestors of my great- grandfather, William Jethroe FOWLER, b. 11-20-1849 (probably in one of the Carolinas), d. 11-27-1919 (probably in Alabama). Buried in Baptist church cemetery in downtown Ranburne, Cleburne Co., Ala. Married Sarah Margaret "Maggie" FOWLER, b. 6-25-1858, d. 12-31-1938. She is buried in same cemetery. (reportedly a 2nd marriage)
William's siblings: L.G. (or possibly L.C.) FOWLER (Luther?)
L.O. FOWLER (Lee?)
J.O. FOWLER (John or Joe?)
Cecil Mae FOWLER( m. HAND)
Lula FOWLER (m. JOHNSON)
Mary FOWLER (m. White)
William's children:
Luther Clarence FOWLER (my grandfather, m. Lula Gadsy BLAKE (b. 1887) in 1906)
Lula FOWLER
Cecil FOWLER (possibly female)
Walter FOWLER (b. 5-3-1882)
John FOWLER
Inez (Annie) FOWLER, b. 8-30-1896, d. 9-5-1897
Fred FOWLER (d. April 1975)
Lee FOWLER
Warner FOWLER (b. 9-8-1889, d. 6-26-1919)
The "word of mouth" story from my 90 year old aunt (daughter of Luther and Lula) is that the Fowlers "came from North Carolina and bought all the land between the big 'Tallapoosie' and little 'Tallapoosie' rivers." Also that 2 of William's sons attended college in Bowden, GA, and he had to hire an attorney full-time to keep them out of trouble. The old Fowler homestead was supposedly in Hightower, (Cleburne Co.) Ala., where my father (also a William Jethroe) was born. Any and all information appreciated. Please email to JodieK444@aol.com. Many, many thanks... Judy Fowler Kilgore
