ABBOTT, MCCAIN, PRUITT, PRUITTS posted by Brenda ABBOTT on Monday, April 16, 2001

I just ran across a query from 1997 about the PRUITT family in Cleburne Co., Al. I am also looking for PRUITTS and I cannot exactly place these but the names are very familiar. My greadgrandfather was Tillman PRUITT, who is buried in Mars Hill Cemetary in Cleburne Co. I have not been able to trace his family any further back. He was born in 1833 and died in 1894. He married a Martha Elizabeth Ann MCCAIN, 1842-1899. She is buried in New Bethel Cemetary in Silver Creek, GA. If you have further info on your Pruitt line, please let me know. My mother is 81 but still remembers the names and places of a lot of the aunts and uncles and cousins from her first 11 years in Cleburne Co. and Muscadine with her grandfather and also in Harrison co. GA, where she was living until 1930. Thanks, and May God Bless!! Brenda ABBOTT : abbottb@mindspring.com

PALMER posted by Glenda Naugher on Wednesday, April 18, 2001

My Grandmother was buried at Borden Springs and a member of the Church of Christ there. Her name was Orada (Ada) PALMER wife of Joseph PALMER. We have no record of her death but think that it might have been printed in the Cleburne County newspaper. Until recently we did not know that a newspaper was being published there at that time. This would have been 1913/14. are these newspapers on file at a library or the newspaper office? If anyone out there knows anything about this person please contact me at glgm66@aol.com

My ancestor was Elijah BRYANT, who lived in the Calhoun/Cleburne area between 1849-1880. I am having difficulty in locating his parents names. One other name may be his wife, Martha Jane BORDEN. I know there were a lot of Bordens in this area. I know Borden Springs was named after my 5th Great Grandfather and his brother (Eli and Joel BORDEN). Any info about these surnames will be greatly appreciated.

EDWARDS, HURT posted by Pam Sutton on Monday, May 28, 2001

I am looking for information on Dr. James P. HURT and family. James P. HURT was born between 1845 - 1850 in GA (according to census records). Married to Mary M. L. EDWARDS (born ca. 1850 in AL) in Cleburne Co., AL in 1870. They appear in the 1880 census in Edwardsville, again in the 1910 Cleburne Co., Edwardsville census with son Homer (born ca. 1883 AL) and daughter Birtha (born ca. 1891 AL). This census lists the mother hs given birth to 6 children, 4 still living. They appear again in 1920 Cleburne Co., Edwardsville census with son Homer. In 1920, Dr. James P. HURT is listed as 71 years old, Mary as 65. From this point I have been unable to find this family. I have checked with the county probate office and there are NO death or probate records for HURT in Cleburne Co. I have been unable to locate a cemetery listing for them. I am at a brick wall. Can anybody help? Homer would be my great grandfather. I have no idea what happened to him or his parents or who his siblings were. I know every family has a brick wall, but I would appreciate any help in knocking this one down!
