ARP, HOWELL, MCCURDY posted by Carolyn Phillips Ponder on Tuesday, February 26, 2002

I am seeking information on my grear grandmother, Martha Caroline ARP McCURDY. I think she went by the name of Mattie, but I knew of her as Mamie. She was born 8-4-1872 in Cleburn County, Alabama and she died 9-17-1952. She is buried in Goshen Cementery in Piedmont, Alabama. All I know about her is that she was the daughter of Joseph ARP. I don't know who her Mother was. She was listed in the 1880 census as living with a Martha HOWELL. She was the niece of Martha HOWELL. She married William Augustus (Gus) McCURDY on 8-27-1889 or 9-1-1889. I found 2 dates for this marriage which took place in Heflin, Alabama. I haven't been able to find any brothers or sisters (or Mother's name). I need to know if she had any siblings, who her Mother was (Nancy ?) and where her Father, Joseph, was buried. Any info would be appreciated......thanks

TERRELL posted by Ricky E. Terrell on Tuesday, March 12, 2002

Searching for any, repeat any, information about Joseph E. TERRELL, b.c1825 and family. Joseph lived in the Randolph County portion of what is now Cleburne County. He lived in the Fruithurst and/or Abernathy Community. The census for 1850 list Randolph,1870 list Wedowee, Randolph and 1880, Township 15 Range 12. His family included; wife, Nancy E. TERRELL (suspected buried in Old Arab Cemetary, Arab, AL.), twin daughters Martha and Nancy b.c1844, dau Matilita b.c1846, dau Mary M. b. c1848, sons Doctor (name, not profession) J. b. c1851 and William Richmond b. Dec 1854. I know Doctor J. and William remained in Cleburne County until at least the 1920 census. Joseph is buried in the Begauld/St. Bethel Cemetary on a pulp wood mountain in Cleburne County. Joseph service in the Civil War is mixed. His tombstone indicates that he served with Company K, 9th Mississippi Infantry. Official Records (Application for Pensions) indicate he served with Companies A & B 8th Mississippi or Alabama Infantry and was wounded at Pollard, Mississippi or Alabama, correctly Alabama. My best guess is that he lived until at least the 1900, as my last official knowledge of him was 10 August 1895. The period most interested in is 1840 to 1910. If anyone can provide any clues I would be greatly appreciative. Thanks Rick Terrell
