W. D. Adams, 75 who lived near Brundidge, died Monday, April 28 at his home.
He is survived by the widow, Mrs. Minnie Adams ; two sons, Charles D. Adams of Brainbridge, Ga. and Lester Adams of Montgomery; a daughter, Mrs. Rube Richards of Phenix City; six grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Isaac Woods of Montgomery and Mrs. Anna Kline of Beaumont, Texas.
Funeral services were held Wednesday from Springfield Church with Rev. E. G. Horton officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

George Adkinson, 54 of Ariton died at his home Tuesday, June 24 after a short illness.
He is survived by his wife,, two sons, Durward Adkinson of Ariton and Lavaughn Adkinson of Troy; one daughter, Mrs. James Sammons of Mobile; three brothers, David Adkinson of Ariton; Frank Adkinson of Forest City, N. C.; Dan Adkinston of Flushing, Ohio; six sisters, Mrs. O. J. Mooneyham of Forest city, N. C.; Mrs. Charles McMillian of Spartenburg, S. C.; Mrs. Douglas Borders of Rochester, N. Y.; Mrs. Woods Baxter of Clio; Mrs. Henry Bleakmore of Flushing, Ohio; Mrs. Neil Chapman of Tampa, Fla.; and Three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday from Bethel Assembly of God Church in Ariton with Rev. John Caperton and Rev. Ottis Cobb and Rev. John Christian officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Bubbie Cleveland "B. C." Ammons 65 of Elba died Friday, Nov. 28.
He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Ollie Mae Pinckard of Miami; Mrs. Winifred Castel of Mobile and Mrs. Morris Wages of Columbus, Ga.; two sisters, Mrs. J. A. Jones and Mrs. John Brown both of Elba; two half-sisters, Mrs. Ida Rugg and Miss Rena Ammons both of Jack; one brother, George Ammons of Elba; two half-brothers, Fonzie Ammons of Montgomery and Will Ammons of Jack.
Funeral services were held Saturday at 10 am from Zion Chapel with Rev. Raso? Fuller officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with Hayes Funeral Home in charge.

Mrs. Addie Baker, 81 of Whitham, Ga. died Wednesday, March 19 in a Cairo, Ga., hospital.
She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Joe Johnson of Coffee Springs and a brother, Arch Anderson of Whitham, Ga.
Funeral services were held Friday at the Rocky Head Baptist Church with Rev. Milton Kitchens and Rev. John Christian officiating.
Burial was in Mt. Olive cemetery.

Luverne Woman Is Burned to Death
A 40 year old mother burned to death at Luverne early Monday morning when flames swept through her small asbestos covered home.
Mrs. Josephine Baldwin died when a fire of unknown origin destroyed her home on Jefferson Avenue around 3 am.
Luverne fire department members said the structure burned so quickly that nothing could be saved by the time they arrived. The house was completely gutted.
Mrs. Baldwin was alone at the time of the fire. Her only son, Claude Baldwin, had returned to his class at The Citadel in Charleston, S. C.
Funeral services were held at the Chapel of Turner's Funeral Home.
Burial was in Andalusia Cemetery.
Surviving in addition to the son are her mother, Mrs. Myrtle Maddox, Luverne; two brothers, Julian Maddox; one sister, Mrs. Oscar Buchhaltz, Ft. Benning, Ga.

Child Aged 3 Killed When Hit By Truck
A three year old girl whose parents formerly lived in Elba, was struck and killed by U. S. Mail Truck in Columbus, Ga. Wednesday, April 30. Leya Jane Bedsole, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Bedsole of Columbus, formerly of Elba.
The child attended Sunday School at the Church of Christ. Her mother is the former Maudye Farris of Elba. Beside the parents, survivors include a brother, Farris Jeffery Bedsole; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John R. Farris of Elba; paternal grandfather, G. T. Bedsole of Columbus.
Funeral services were held from the Church of Christ in Columbus.

Henry C. Boles, 82, lifelong resident of Elba, died in an Opp hospital Saturday, Dec. 20
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Alice Boles; two daughters, Mrs. Alice Lee of Chancellor, Mrs. Carey Belle Burbyville of Elba; three sons, Hilton and Coley Boles of Elba and Brady Boles of Laurel Hill, Fla: three sisters, Mrs. Audie Dukes and Mrs. Pearl Miller, both of Florala; Mrs. Maudie Boutwell of Elba; and 21 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday from the Albertson Baptist Church with the Rev. S. C. Castalow officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

B. E. Boutwell, 70 of Elba died in an Opp hospital Saturday, Sept. 27, after a long illness.
He is survived by four daughters; Mrs. Tishie Capps, Misses Patsy and Dessie Boutwell all of Elba, and Mrs. Ruby Meeks of Columbus, Ga.; three sons; Tom and Dixon both of Phenix City and Milford of Elba; one brother, Jeff Boutwell of Elba; two sisters, Mrs. Lema Thompson and Mrs. Pearl Tidwell of Malone, Fla.
Funeral services were held Sunday at 3:30 pm from the Danley Crossroads Church with the Rev. J. P. Morgan officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with Hayes Funeral Home directing.

J. E. Boutwell, 67, died Tuesday, Nov. 11 at his home in Elba.
He is survived by the widow, Mrs. Maudie Mae Boutwell; one son, Leavy Boutwell of Elba; two sisters, Mrs. Pearl Tidwell and Mrs. Lima Thompson, both of Bascom, Fla; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services were held from the Shiloh Baptist church with the Rev. Dan Dubots and Rev. Mr. Black officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Lewis Brooks; two daughters, Mrs. Louie Myles, Jr. of Deland, Fla.; and Mrs. Helen Benton of Tampa, Fla.; her mother, Mrs. Letha Davis of Andalusia; three sisters, Mrs. Lennie Carter, Andalusia; Mrs. Lottie Goraum, Pensacola, Fla; and Ella Bankson of Opelika; three brothers, K. R. Wiggins, Andalusia; Leavy Wiggins, Opelika; and W. A. Cook, Opelika; two step-sons, Lewie Brooks, Jr., Montgomery and Jerry Brooks, Tallahassee, Fla.
Funeral services were held Sunday at 1:30 pm from the First Baptist church with Rev. Murray L. Seay officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen cemetery.

Thomas of Luverne; Mrs. Willie Jacobs of Elba; Mrs. James Dennis of Decatur, Ga.; four sons, Ellis Brown of Headland; John C. Brown of Clayton; Eugene and Charles of Jack; three sisters, Mrs. Ella Hudson of Montgomery; Miss Nettie Clark of Crescent, Fla. and Mrs. Sybil Walker of Jack; one brother, Oscar Clark of Jack.
Funeral services were held Thursday at 2:30 pm from Zion Chapel Church with Rev. Q. P. Jones and Rev. Rass Fuller officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Albert Sidney Bryan, 79 of Glenwood died in a Tuscaloosa hospital Tuesday, June 17.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Jane Bryan; two sons, Carl and Roy Bryan, both of Tampa, Fla; one daughter, Mrs. James Brandley of Pontaic, Mich; one sister, Mrs. Mary j. Mathews of Montgomery.
Funeral was held Friday from the Bethel Baptist church with burial in Providence cemetery.

Wife of Former Coach Here Dies
Funeral services were held at Brewton Wednesday, last week for Mrs. Frank Buckner (no age) wife of a former coach at Elba High School and now principal of the High School at Blakely, Ga.
Services were held at Blakely Tuesday at 4 PM and at Brewton her former home Wednesday at 3PM.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Buckner is survived by two daughter's, Judy aged 15 and Joy aged 11. She was the former Azelene Brooks of Brewton. Death due to cancer.

Mrs. Sara Frances Carnley, 65 of Elba, died at her home Wednesday Nov. 26.
She is survived by he husband, Joe Carnley; six daughters, Mrs. Emma McDonald, Mrs. Lula Lisby and Mrs. Lee Hall all of Brantley; Mrs. Alice Allen of Mobile; Mrs. Estelle Smith of Dozier; Mrs. Pearl Walls of Bay Minette;; two sons, Walter and William Carnley both of Brantley; two brothers, Baughton Nowling of Brantley and Walter Nowling of Clearmont, Florida.
Funeral services were held Thursday from Pine Level Baptist Church with Rev. J. C. Kinnon officiating.

Tommie Carnley, aged eight months, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ossie Carnley of Elba, died Saturday, Dec. 13.
Besides the parents, he is survived by two sisters, Misses Betsy Lee and Melissa Ann Carnley; a brother, Bobbie; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Carnley and grandmother, Mrs. Florida Flowers, all of Route 5, Elba.
Funeral services were held Sunday at 10 am from Shady Grove Church with Rev. Rase Fuller officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

James Sylas Carter, 76 of Brundidge, died at his home Wednesday, March 5.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mattie M. Carter; two sons, Fred Carter of Brundidge and Fox Carter of Tennille; two daughters, Mrs. Semmie Graham of Tennille, Mrs. Aaron Hardin of Phenix City; five grandchildren; a brother, G. B. Carter of Tennille; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Hunter and Mrs. Pearl Johnson of Tennille.
Funeral services were held Thursday at 2 pm at William's Church with Rev. Ed Sells and Elder Russell Gibson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Mary Conner, 84 of Brundidge died at her home June 18.
She is survived by two sons, Fred and Don Conner both of Tennille; five daughters, Mrs. Howard Adams and Mrs. Clarence Flowers both of Phenix City; Mrs. Noah Prestwood and Mrs. Coley Wilson both of Tennille and Mrs. Marenda Eidson of Montgomery; a brother, G. B. Carter and a sister, Mrs. A. L. Johnston both of Tennille.
Funeral services was held Thursday from Williams Chapel with Rev. G. W. Walker officiating. Burial was in Lakeview cemetery.

Daniel Duncan Davis, 75 of Kinston, died Tuesday, June 10 in Geneva County hospital following a long illness.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. H. O. Simmons of Kinston; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday from the Corner Creek Methodist Church with Rev. Archie McDougald and Rev. Paschal Wise officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

She is survived by two sons, Coston Dean of Kinston and B. A. Allen of Andalusia; four daughters, Mrs. Essie Bell Edwards of Kinston; Mrs. Clydie Baker of Samson; Mrs. Euna Vaye Pierce of Andalusia and Mrs. Olivia Kennedy of El Paso, Texas; four brothers, Jeff and Howard Richards both of Midland City, Ezz and Esker Richards both of Dothan; 19 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Frances A. "Gus" Devane, 72 retired Elba merchant died at his home here Saturday, April 12.
He is survived by the widow, four daughters, Mrs. Agnes Andrews of Pensacola; Mrs. Paul Morgan of Hattiesburg, Miss.; Mrs. Bazell Thagard of Brantley and Mrs. Russell Walden of Glenwood, Minn.; five sons, Roy and James R. Devane both of Elba; Tillman Devane of New Orleans; Douglas Devane of Winter Haven, Fla.; and Harold Devane of Montgomery; four sisters, Mrs. Mattie Spurlin of Elba, Mrs. Emma Stenson of Chestnut Grove, Mrs. Mollie Lubert of Montgomery, Mrs. Alice Payne of Washington, D. C. a brother, Cobb of Elba and 20 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Edwin Harwell, the Rev. Murray Seay and Rev. Ralph Hendricks officiating. Burial was in White Water cemetery.

Dewberry Rites
Funeral services for Albert Preston Dewberry, 46, of Elba were held Saturday, Oct. 4 from the First Baptist Church with Rev. Murray L. Seay pastor and Rev. Lee Johnson pastor of the Lynn Haven Baptist Church officiating. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery.
Mr. Dewberry was killed instantly Tuesday, Sept. 29 in Orange, Va., while on a truck driving trip when he apparently became excited while making a turn and jumped from the truck. He was with another trucker of Elba who was driving at the time of the accident.

Army in South Carolinia: George C. Dewrell of Opp; four grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Sophia Dewrell of Andalusia; two brothers, Willie and Bernace Dewrell of Andalusia; a sister, Mrs. Bessie Cunningham of Andalusia.

Mrs. Mattie Pearl Farris no/age wife of Woodrow Farris, well known resident of the Sand Hill community, Elba, Rt. 3 passed away at the family home Monday afternoon following a short illness. Pneumonia and compilations were the cause of death.
Surviving are the husband; a small daughter and four sons.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon with Elder Jack Mitchell officiating.
Bonneau-Jeter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Charles M. Frazier, 28 of Doraville, Ga. died in a truck accident near Madisonville, Tenn., Friday, Oct 10.
He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Patricia Ann; two sons, Gregory and Mark all of Doraville; his mother Mrs. Mary Bell Frazier of Andalusia; two brothers, Cary Frazier of Mobile and Paul D. Frazier of Knoxville, Tenn; two half brothers, Clarence and Ferman McKay of Mobile; seven sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Sherrill, Mrs. Thelma Freeman and Mrs. Fannice Lynch of Andalusia; Mrs. Georgia Kirkland and Mrs. Mamie Lundsford of Pensacola, Fla; Mrs. Emily Walters of Brewton and Mrs. Evelyn Kelly of Red Level, Ala.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Oct 12 from the First Pentecostal Church in Andalusia with Rev. Bobby Lawrence officiating. Masonic Rites were held at interment in Memorial cemetery with Norcross Lodge, No. 228, F and AM in charge.

W. H. Gannon Funeral Will Be Held Today
W. Hugh Gannon died Tuesday at his home on his farm near New Brockton which he operated for a long time for C. E. (Pete) Dorsey and later purchased. He was 57 years old.
He is survived by the widow and three sons, Herbert H. Gannon of Enterprise; Edwin W. Gannon now in service with the U. S. Army; Jimmy Gannon of new Brockton; two brothers, Julian Gannon of Enterprise; C. G. Gannon of Cordell, Ga.; three sisters, Mrs. Mace Sawyer, Mrs. I. A. Bowden and Mrs. John Bowden all of New Brockton.
Funeral services will be held at Bethany Church Thursday at 3 pm with Rev. Mr. Brewer and Rev. Mr. Messick and Dr. B. R. Justice officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Billy Ann Moore, of Manila, Philippine Island; her mother, Mrs. C. J. Dykes of Montgomery; a son, L. Dykes Meredith of Elba; three brothers, P. H. and W. I. Dykes of Troy and J. R. Dykes of Jackson, Miss; a sister, Mrs. W.A. Shaver of Troy and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday from the Elba Methodist Church with the Rev. R. R. Hendricks and the Rev. Murray L. Seay officiating. Burial was in Concord cemetery.

C. P. Hudson, 32 of Sunset Blvd., Elba, died Monday, Feb. 24 at 8:35 am in Opp hospital from pneumonia.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Janey C. Hudson; one daughter, Judy aged five years and his father, C. E. Hudson of Route 1 Elba; one brother, Varlon Hudson of Bay Minette.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at 3 pm from Friendship Baptist Church with Rev. Huey Ziglar and Rev. Macon B. Miller officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Rev. John Alford Jones, 85 of Elba, died in a hospital in Enterprise Thursday, March 13.
He is survived by the widow, Mrs. Mary E. Jones of Elba; five sons, P. H. Jones of Mobile, A. G. Jones of Elba, W. A. Jones of San Francisco, Arthur G. Jones of Andalusia and B. C. Jones of Mobile.
Funeral services were held Saturday from West Side Baptist Church with Rev. Mr. Rentz and Rev. A. L. Steozier officiating. Burial was in the Magnolia cemetery at Andalusia.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ida Harrison Kelly and three sons, Leo and Robert of Enterprise and N. L. Kelly of Elba; three grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Leona Harrison and Mrs. J. D. Peters both of New Brockton and Albert of Elba.
Funeral will be Thursday at 3 pm from Bethany Church with burial in Bethany cemetery.

Monroe Kelly, 69 of Elba, died in Edge hospital Wednesday, Sept. 24 after a long illness. Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Mary Bradley of Elba and Mrs. Ella Cole of Jack.
Funeral services were held Friday from the Victoria Baptist church with Rev. Bennie Griswell officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with Hayes Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Vaula Ann Kendrick beloved Elba woman, and one of the most highly esteemed citizens of this community passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Arthur Boutwell, late Monday afternoon, following a long illness.
Mrs. Kendrick was 77 years of age, and a native of Coffee County. She was the widow of the late Thomas D. Kendrick.

B. Kidd of Brantley.
Funeral services were held at Pine Level Church Wednesday with Rev. W. C. Ramer officiating.

She is survived by two sons; Tup Rushing of Gadsden and Willie Rushing of Miami; A daughter, Miss Louise Leibert of Elba and a sister, Mrs. Bone Ham of Elba.
Funeral services were held Saturday at 4:30 pm from the home of Harry Boswell with Rev. M. L. Seay officiating. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery.

He is survived by three sons: McAlfa Leverette, Henry Pearson Leverette, Lomax Leverette all of Glenwood Route 1: four daughters, Mrs. Lucile Pyron and Mrs. Minnie Lee Rushing of Glenwood Route 1: Mrs. Edie Ella McCurley of Crestview, Fla. And Mrs. Cornella Sexton of Whigham, Ga.
Funeral services were Tuesday from Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. J. P. Morgan officiating. Burial was in Antioch cemetery with Hayes Funeral Home in charge.

Mrs. Mamie (Holloway) Mathews, wife of the late Cicero Mathews, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fred McKenzie, Jr. at Fairhope, Sept. 19, 1957. She was a native of Elba but had lived in Baldwin County for the past 33 years.
She was 74 years old.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. McKenzie; Mrs. Walter Glass of Harpersville, Ala. and Mrs. Robert Folmar of Kelseyville, Calif.; a brother, Monroe Holloway of Mississippi; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held from the Chapel of Higgins Mortuary in Fairhope Friday Set. 20. Burial was in Bethsnida? Cemetery at Loxley.
Pallbearers were: Aldwin Lee, Okley Lee, Eldo Lee, Louis Underwood, Edward Lee, and Alphonso Lee.

Mrs. Moore died in Plant City nursing home Sunday, Feb. 23.
She leaves her husband, William Arnold Moore of Arcadia; a son, Delone Moore of Port Tampa.
Attending the funeral from Elba were Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Moore, Mr. and Mrs. Shelby Morrow, Mr. and Mrs. Hubbard Morrow, Gillis Morrow, Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Moore of Mobile attended also.

Marion D, Whitaker, 76 of Elba, died noonday in a Montgomery hospital after a long illness.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Fannie Lou Whitaker; a son, Lloyd Whitaker of Columbus, Ga.; four step-sons, Morris Davis of Montgomery; Norris Davis of Jacksonville, Fla.; Burvie Layton of Jacksonville, Fla.; Willie Layton of Elba; two step-daughters, Mrs. Charles W. Jones of Montgomery and Mrs. Roy Weeks of Tarpon Springs, Fla.; a brother, Walter W. Whitaker of Montgomery.
Funeral services were held Tuesday from Tabernacle Methodist Church with Rev. Joe Mosley officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.


C. J. WILLIAMS

C. J. Williams, 72, formerly of Elba, died December 14, 1957 at his home in Panama City, Fla. Where he had lived for the past three years.
He was born in Fayette County and lived most of his life in and around Elba until 1943, when he removed to Andalusia. After 12 years there he removed to Panama City.
He is survived by his wife and four daughters, Mrs. Clinton Wilbourn and Mrs. T. B. Wilbourn of Panama City; Mrs. Joe Molligi of Birmingham; N. Y. and Mrs. Dock Padgett of Elba.
Funeral services were held from the Hayes Funeral Home Dec. 17 with George Dawkins representative of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society officiating. Burial was in Woodland Grove cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Grady Padgett, Talmadga Todd, Douglas Cobb, Horace King, Stillman Daniels and Lamar Harper.


MRS. ARLENE ADCOCK WOOD

Mrs. Arlene Wood, 22 of Elba, died in Crestview, Fla. Sunday, Oct. 26.
She is survived by her husband, Oland Wood: one son, Rodger Wood of Elba: the father, H. R. Adcock of Elba: one sister, Mrs. Cupie Dean McCollough of Kinston: four brothers, Luther, Clarence and R. B. Adcock of Elba and Frank Adcock of Alexandria, Va.
Funeral services were held Friday from the Friendship Baptist Church with Rev. W. A. Grant officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with Hayes Funeral Home in charge.

SAM BEAN YOUNG

Sam Bean Young, 62 died at his home here Monday.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Beulah B. Young of Elba; two sisters, Mrs. Maggie Wise of Samson; Mrs. Mattie Windham of Elba; three brothers, L. F. Young of Albany, Ga., J. P. Young of Dallas, Texas, and A. W. Young of Elba.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at 4 pm from the Church of Christ with Minister Curtis Duke and Merle Seay officiating. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery.

RUFUS P. ZIGLAR

Rufus P. Ziglar, 82 formerly of Ariton died at the home of his daughter in Panama City, Fla. Monday June 9.
Survivors include six daughters, Mrs. Otis Jacobs and Mrs. Otis Carr both of Ariton; Mrs. Brock Registrar and Mrs. Buck Stephens, both of Panama City, Fla.; Mrs. C. B. Beasley, Sr. of Wetumpka and Mrs. Allen Hughes of Columbus, Ga.; three sons, Spencer Ziglar of Elba; Lester and Dawson Ziglar both of Ariton; a brother, Walker Ziglar of Ariton; 42 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday from Rocky Head Baptist Church with Rev. S. W. Etheridge officiating.
Burial was in Mount Olive cemetery.
