JAMES A. BURKETT


James A. Burkett, 61, of New Brockton, died Thursday morning, September 2, 1999, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 4, at 4 p.m. at Hayes Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Bethany Church Cemetery with Hayes Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be tonight, Friday, September 3, at Hayes Funeral Home of Elba, from 6-8 p.m.


CALVIN GRAYER


Calvin Grayer, 47, of Pontiac, Michigan, died Monday, August 30, 1999, at his home.

Funeral services will be held today, Friday, September 3, at 11 a.m. in Pontiac, with Sconiers Funeral Home making the announcement.


JOHN LEWIS GRIFFIN


John Lewis Griffin, 46, of Enterprise, died Tuesday, August 31, 1999, at Jackson Hospital of Montgomery. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and are to be announced by Coleman Funeral Home.


ROBERT G. O'NEIL


Master Sergeant (Retired) Robert G. O'Neil, 64, of Daleville, died Tuesday, August 31, 1999, at Dale Medical Center of Ozark.

Services will be today, Friday, September 3, at 11 a.m. at Searcy Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Mike Dease and the Rev. Fred Snell officiating. Burial will follow at Daleville Memorial Gardens with full military honors with Searcy Funeral Home directing.


OTIS SMITH


Otis Smith, 79, of 707 Reese Avenue in Elba, died Sunday, August 29, 1999, at his home.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. from the Harris Temple Church of God in Christ in Elba with Elder W. K. Ellison, pastor, officiating and Hammond Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Elba.

The body will lie in state at Hammond Funeral Chapel after 4 p.m. Friday until one hour before the funeral on Saturday, at whuch time the body will lie in state at the church.

Family and friend visitation will be held Friday night from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Hammond Funeral Chapel.


SHERRY LYNETTE SOARS


Sherry Lynette Soars, 37, of Elba, died Thursday, September 2, 1999, Elba General Hospital. Funeral will be at Wooten Chapel on Saturday, September 4, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Mike Medley officiating. Burial will follow at Hudson Cemetery in Elba with Hayes Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be at Hayes Funeral Home on Friday, September 3, from 6-8 p.m. Mrs. Soars will lie in state one hour prior to services at Wooten Chapel Church.

Survivors are: husband, Larry Soars of Elba; mother, Lucille Hudson of Elba; two sons, Corey Cook and Derrick Cook of Elba; three sisters, Lynn HUDSON of Ozark, Donna HUDSON Sasser of Springville and Rhoda HUDSON Stuckey of New Brockton; and a grandmother, Ida Bell HUDSON of Elba.

WALTER MAX RIGGLE, SR.


Walter Max Riggle, Sr., 56, of Enterprise, died Tuesday, September 7, 1999, at the family home on County Road 606 of Enterprise.

Services will be held Friday, September 10, at 11 a.m. at Goodman Baptist Church with the Dr. John Granger and the Rev. Bill Frank officiating. The burial will be held at Goodman Cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home directing. Mr. Riggle will be placed in the church one hour prior to funeral service. The family will receive friends at Searcy Funeral Home, tonight, Thursday, September 9, from 6-8 p.m.

Mr. Riggle was preceded in death by his father and mother, Purdy Max and Margaret E. Riggle.

Survivors include: Wife, Margaret J. Riggle of Enterprise; four daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy RIGGLE Bogart and Jimmy Bogart of Enterprise, Amber RIGGLE Turk and Chris Turk of Enterprise, Diane RIGGLE Turner and Gary Turner of New Brockton, and Charlene RIGGLE Wise of Enterprise; three sons and daughters-in-law, Walter Max Riggle, Jr. and Shannon Riggle of Goodman, Maxie Charles Andrews of Goodman, and Jimmy Ray and Teresa Andrews of Enterprise; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Marion RIGGLE Fusion and James Fusion of Akron, Ohio, and Maxine RIGGLE Henson and John Henson of Roanoke, Virginia; 8 grandchildren; 2 nephews; and 4 nieces.

LERA M. AVANT


Lera M. Avant, 85, Daleville, died Friday, September 10, 1999, at Medical Center Enterprise.

Funeral services will be held today, September 12, at2:30 p.m. atSercy Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Roy Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery in Clayhatchie under the direction of Searcy Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends today from noon until service time.

Mrs. Avant was preceded in death by her husbands, Frank Jackson and Lloyd Avant, three daughters and two sons.

Survivors include: three daughters, Ervie Merle Cobb, of Mobile, Ailene Nickel of Dothan, and Jeannie Thompson of Opelika; three sons, Dewey Frank Jackson of Mississippi, Jacki Jackson of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Paul Jackson of Daleville; one sister, Mavis Smith of Pie Mountain, Georgia; one brother, Roy Denton of Lynn Haven, Florida; 19 grandchildren and 23 great-gradnchildren.



LOLA MAE BEAUCHAMP


Lola Mae Beauchamp, 92, Enterprise, died Friday, September 10, 1999, at home.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 14, at 2:30 p.m. from Johns Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church with Rev. Theodis Parker officiating. Burial will follow in Johns Chapel Cemetery with Sconiers Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends at 204 W. Brunson St. in Enterprise.



BEULAH CLAIR BRYAN


Beulah Clair Bryan, 59, Elba, died Friday, September 10, 1999, at Elba General Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at Hayes Funeral Home today, September 12, at 2 p.m. with Dr. Tony Dye officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery of Elba under direction of Hayes Funeral Home.



ROBERT THOMAS CARTER


Robert Thomas "Tom" Carter, 60, Level Plains, died Friday, September 10, 1999, at Flowers Hospital in Dothan.

Memorial services will be at 4 pm. Monday, September 13, at the chapel of Searcy Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Baxter officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Searcy Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends at Searcy Funeral Home on Monday, September 13, from 3 p.m. until service time.

Mr. Carter was a veteran of the USAF. Memorials may be made to: The American Lung Association, 1740 Broadway, New York, NY 10019.

GERALD RAYMOND PARKER, SR.


Gerald Raymond Parker, Sr., 64, of Daleville, died Friday evening, September 10, 1999, in the Enterprise Nursing Home.

Cremation will take place and memorial services will be announced at a later date.

Surrvivors include: his wife, Beatrice Parker of Daleville; four daughters, June Shirley PARKER Beer, Dorothy Lee PARKER, Marie Elizabeth PARKER James, and Kathy Mary PARKER, all of Michigan; two sons, Gerald Raymond Parker, Jr. and Roy Russell Dickson, both of Michigan; one sister, Rhea PARKER Everngen of Maryland; two brothers, Frank Parker of South Carolina and Robert Parker of Daleville; and 20 grandchildren.

JIMMIE BECKHAM AVRETT


Mrs. Jimmie Beckham Avrett, 76, Enterprise, died Thursday, September 16, 1999, at Flowers Hospital in Dothan.

Funeral services will be today, Sunday, September 19, at 3:30 p.m. at First Assembly of God Church in New Brockton with Rev. Hayes Smith and Rev. S.L. Nolin officiating. Burial will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery under the direction of Searcy Funeral Home.

Ms. Avrett was preceded in death by her husband of 58 1/2 years, Lt. Col. U.S. Army (Ret.) Marion E. "Ted" Avrett; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ople Beckham, Samson; one sister, Faye BECKHAM Dean, Enterprise; and one brother, Eddie Ray Beckham, Enterprise.

Mrs. Avrett was born in the McCall Store Community and graduated from Samson High School with the class of 1940. She was Miss Samson 1939, competing in the Peanut Festival 60 years ago. Together with her husband, Ted Avrett, she lived a full life, which included the U.S. Army, farming, banking and the automobile business. Wherever she journeyed, she made lasting friendships. She was a member if Marvin Chapel Assemby of God Church, AUSA, AAAA, the Fort Rucker Army Officers' Wives Club, the Daffodil Garden Club, the Sesame Study Club, and Bullard Chapter of Eastern Star. Little in size, big in heart, she gave unselfishly to family and friends, and her memory will be forever cherished.

Survivors include: two daughters, Faye AVRETT (Ellis) Wise of Samson, and Jennifer AVRETT (Mickey) Grimes of ENterprise; three grandchildren, Wade Wise, Alex (Shelley) Grimes abd Ashley Grimes, all of Enterprise' a sister, Joan BECKHAM (Jack) Speed of Enterprise; one brother, Bennie C. (Geraldine) Beckham of Enterprise; three sisters-in-law, Francis AVRETT Crocker of Dothan, Clara AVRETT (Bowden) Sessions of Samson, and Mary Alice BeckhamBill (Jeanette) Avrett of Enterprise.


BOBBIE LOVE THOMAS CARROLL


Mrs. Bobbie Love Thomas Carroll, 79, Enterprise, died Friday, September 17, 1999, in ENterprise.

Funeral services will be held today, Sunday, September 19, at Searcy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Roberson officiating. Burial will follow in Enterprise City Cemetery under the direction of Searcy Funeral Home.

Survivors include: her husband, James Earsle Carroll of Enterprise; a daughter, Colleen CARROLL Barden and special friend, Ned McIntosh of Enterprise; a son, James Leslie (Arlene) Carroll of Milford, Massachusetts; two sisters, Lola Lewis and Minnie Russell, both of Enterprise; three grandchildren, Dawn Marie (Richard) Johnson, James Robert Carroll, and Kelly Ryan Barden; and two great-grandchildren, Jimmy and Suzanna Johnson.


J. PAUL POTTS


J. Paul Potts, 94, Newton, died Friday morning, September 17, 1999, in a Dothan hospital following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. today, Sunday, September 19, from Holman Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roger Stone and Rev. Al Norris officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel Cemetery near Newton, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing.

Visitation will be in the funeral home parlors until service time on Sunday.

Mr. Potts was a native of amd life-long resident of Dale County where he was engaged in farming. Mr. Potts, a loving father, grandfatherm great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Addie Mae Potts.

Survivors include one son, Kenneth Potts and his wife, Sarah; one daughter, Eloise POTTS Sullivan and her husband, Joe; four grandchildren, Sherry Moore and her husband, Ron, Mark Potts and his wife, Tammy, Stacey Sullivan and Tanya Sullivan; four great-grandchildren, Kyle Moore, Kaitlynn Moore, Brittney Potts and Kendall Potts; one great-great-grandchild, Caymon Moore; and several nieces and nephews also survive.


ARLENE RAMSEY


Arlene Ramsey, 69, Daleville, died Friday, September 17, 1999, in Flowers Hospital in Dothan after a brief illness.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Patterson-Sorrells Funeral Home.

MARGARET ANN FORD


Margaret Ann Ford, 52, of Samson, died Saturday, September 18, 1999, at her home.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 25, at 3 p.m. from the 9th United Holiness Church with Elder Earl Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Samson City Cemetery with Wiregrass Funeral Home of Geneva directing. Visitation will be tonight, Friday, September 24, from 6-7 p.m.

The family will have lunch at the church following the funeral services.


MARGARET M. JONES


Margaret M. Jones, of Miami, Florida, formerly of Coffee County, died early Thursday morning, September 23, 1999, in Miami after an extended illness.

Graveside funeral service will be noon Saturday, September 25, from the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery.

Willie Sanders, 59, of Enterprise, deid Monday, September 27, 1999, at Medical Center Enterprise.

Services will be held Friday, October 1, at 3:30 p.m. from Johns Chapepl AFrican Methodist Episcopal Church with the Rev. Theodis Parker officiating. Burial will follow at Johns Chapel Cemetery with Sconiers Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends at 429 Grimes Street in Enterprise.
