CAREW, Edward S. (Private, Company G, 6th Alabama Infantry Regiment) Surgeon Edmond Shackelford Carew was born April 13, 1839 in Autauga County Alabama and died December 31, 1886 in Montgomery, Montgomery County Alabama; buried in the Carew - Powell plot in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Montgomery, Montgomery County Alabama, Alabama. He was the son of Rebecca Elizabeth Ann Shackelford (February 26, 1819 – February 27, 1872) and Civil War Blockade runner Major Ebenezer Goddard Carew (July 3, 1811 – September 2, 1884). Edmond married February 29, 1874 to Elizabeth Williams, the daughter of Major W. D. Williams of Newton, Alabama; buried in the Carew - Powell lot in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Montgomery, Montgomery County Alabama. Dr. Eddie and Elizabeth had no children. Edmond was a single, 19-year-old Alabama born Physician from Autaugaville, Autauga County Alabama. He enlisted for 1 year on June 2, 1861 at Corinth Mississippi. He was present at 1st Manassas Virginia with the 6th Alabama. In March 1862, he was appointed Assistant Surgeon with the 8th Louisiana Regiment. Contributed by Glen C. Beckwith |
