I am a Franklin Co. native, but lived away from this area for 23 years, and now reside in Decatur. I am always looking for different people in Franklin Co. My maiden name was Grissom and we recently discovered that President Bill Clinton is a very distant cousin, about 10th cousins. Our ggggrandfather Drury Grissom had several children; my line is Philip. One of his brothers was Moses, who is the line of President Clinton (on his mothers side of the family). I was going through some old magazines (The Natchez Trace Traveler) and noticed some things that might be interesting to folks researching in Franklin Co. There is a copy of all the people buried in the Devanney Cem. in Russellville and a few wills and Bible records.

Judi Vinson I am looking for information on Leroy Vinson ( we are not sure this is his correct first name, but it appears as Leroy on the 1870 Winston Co. census) and Fetney Caroline Gist. We are trying to find out the names of his parents. Some relatives say his father was Berry/Littleberry Vinson. Leroy had a half brother Coatsworth who is well documented in Franklin Co. Leroy also had a sister Amandy Jane who married a Morgan and moved to Arkansas. Leroy was born about 1842/43 and died between1870/1880. His wife and children are well documented in Franklin Co. I was told that Leroy was in the civil war, but have found no proof of this. Any info on this family would be most helpful and greatly appreciated.

I am searching for more information on my great grandfather's parents. My great grand father was John M.DICKEY. I have found him at last in Franklin Co., AL in 1850 District 6. He is 10 years old. Mother Nelley DICKEY, don't know her maiden name, is head of household with ggrandfather John and siblings; James, William and Drucilla. I think I have found father in Benton Co., AL living in a Rickey household, not a member of the family. He is a 37 years old and a wagonier. The 1850 census was taken in Jan. so father could be off hauling goods during the off planting and harvest season. I don't have access to the Franklin Co. 1860 census so I can not look to see if John and Nelley are living in Franklin Co. and together. If anyone can look this up in 1860 I surely would appreciate it. Young John, my ggrandfather has moved on to MO by 1860.

Looking for family of John Louis McCLESKEY. His fourth child Martha Mahulda Havannah McCLESKEY was born in Franklin County January 20, 1860. Family records show two other sons and a daughter were born in Cherokee Co, but I believe they were born in the town of Cherokee, which would have been in Franklin County in 1860-1870. The other children and their birth dates are: William Edward, 12/30/1860; Mary Louis, 5/30/1863; George Henry, 2/22/1868. If John Louis McCLESKEY served in the Civil War, he would have joined from this county. Any assistance will be appreciated.
