I have WilliamFISHER (probably with a middle initial F.) born in Alabama in either 1836 (per his tombstone) or May 1845 (per the 1900 Franklin County, AL census). He was married to a Mary and had at least two sons, one named John C. (Calvin I think) and one called "Bud". I have not a clue as to what Bud's proper name was. Bud married LauraYOCUM who died some time after my great grandmother, Florence Fisher was born. Florence was living with her grandparents (William and Mary FISHER) on the 1900 census. They lived in the Russellville area and are buried at Gravel Hill (Hale) Cemetary. Mary and William have homemade tombstones and William has a Confederate marker stating that he was in Co. C 11 of the Alabama Calvary. The plaque also gives his dates as 1836-1909. Any help is appreciated. Joni

Looking information on Ellic (Alexander)HODGE, born ca 1827, possibly in Tennessee. Hodges, Alabama is supposedly named after Ellic HODGE. Would like to verify this and learn more about this HODGE family. Ellic was married to MargaretTIFFIN. Margaret is supposedly of Cherokee native American persuasion. Margaret had two brothers, Ed TIFFIN and Henry TIFFIN. Margaret had one sister, Alice TIFFIN. These families were allegedly to have resided in Franklin County, AL. Ellic HODGE did move to Itawamba County, MS, raising ten children. When Ellic and Margaret HODGE were older they allegedly moved to Texas with their youngest son, Isaac HODGE. They are assumed buried in Texas. Ellic and Margaret HODGE are my g-g-g- grandparents.

WilliamWILSON, private in Company G of the 27th Alabama Infantry, died 8/9/1862 at Camp Douglas, Illinois. Seeking any information about this person. I believe he was from Franklin county as that is the county of his enlistment. I am trying to find the parents of my g grandfather, Abram or Abraham WILSON. I have on information or past history about who they might be. Abram was supposedly born somewhere in GA about 1852. He shows up in Morgan County Alabama on the 1870 Morgan Co, AL census as being 18 years old, born in GA, and living in the household of a MaryWOODALL. She is shown as being 33 years old, born in SC and keeping house. It seems Abram needed permission to marry Sarah JaneNESMITH and a legal document was filed giving permission, but it was not Abram's parents who signed this paper. It was signed by what looks like an H. H.CROSBY and S.E. CROSBY. The document is very faded and hard to read so the initials may be incorrect but the CROSBY appears fairly clear. Abe and Sarah Jane married in Lawrence County in Oct. of 1870. I don't know why they married in Lawrence county since both were from Morgan Co. Maybe he had relatives there? If anyone has any information that might help, please contact me. Names associated with this family are:WOODALL, CROSBY, VEST, NESMITH.

He was given a pension land grant for service in the War of 1812. This pension land grant was located in Colbert county and was bordered by Franklin County. MyHUDSONS immigrated from England to Virginia in 1635. Early generations lived in Accomack, Henrico, and Amelia Counties in Virginia. By the early 1800s these Hudsons were living in FRANKLIN COUNTY, ALABAMA. In 1845 my great grandfather, Benjamin Wesley Hudson, married his first wife and she died in 1850 in Bradley County, Arkansas. Later that year, he was back in Franklin County, Alabama, and married Louisa J. After her death, he married Mary AnnEVANS b.February 07, 1838, in Alabama, d. Abt. 1865. When she died, he married her sister, Hannah Roseanna EVANS b. July 26, 1841, in Alabam, d. June 24, 1912, in Arkansas. When Benjamin died in 1881, moved to Texas, to the Wynnewood, Oklahoma area, then finally to Bradley County, Arkansas, where I grew up. I am looking for any connecting infomation on the Hudsons, Evans, and the first and second wives of Benjamin Wesley Hudson. http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/h/u/d/Richard- B-Hudson/index.html

Rod Barken Sun Oct 24 19:06:39 1999

Searching for relatives of, ancestors of, and information about, the families ofORMAND and/orORMAN, James T. (b. Feb 13 1789 in Mecklenburg, NC; d. Apr 27 1870 in Russellville, Franklin Co, AL, buried in Cedar Creek Family Cemetary). James T. was married to MaryRHEA(sometimes spelledREA) and lived on his own land near the Ormand Bridge on Cedar Creek. They had five (5) children: Ellenor ("Ellen") R. Ormand (b. 1821) Mary Ann Ormand (b. 1822) James Morrison Ormand (b. 1824) Margaret Pinckney Ormand (b. 1824) Louisa Vicey Ormand (b. 1828) A James T. Ormond was counted in the eastern subdivision, Franklin County, alabama in the 1860 census. James T. spelled his name Ormand, as did his son, James Morrison; however some of the children seem to drop the "d". James T. came to Alabama about 1827 to Marion County, Alabama. He is considered an Alabama "Pioneer. "The History of Alabama" states that James T. Ormand came to Alabama in 1827 when his son, James M. Ormand was 3 years old. Family history suggests that James and his brother John went to Alabama together. James Morrison Ormand (b. Feb 6, 1824 in Mecklenburg, NC; d. Sept 16 1907 in Franklin Co, AL). James Morrison was married to Elizabeth Hancock on Dec 11 1855. He is buriend in the Cedar Creek Family Cemetary. They had eight (8) children: Wm. Arthur Orman Sr.(b. 1856) Mary Louella Ormand (b. 1858) James Harvey Ormand (b. 1859) Benjamin Franklin Ormand Sr. (b. 1861) Eliza Poline Ormand (b. 1864) Catherine Ormand (b. 1867) Lucy Kumpe Ormand (b. 1869) John Edward Ormand Sr. (b. 1871) The above information comes from an extensive collection ofORMOND, ORMAN and ORMAN families data gathered by the Ormand Family Historian in North Carolina. As you can see, much is already known of the families descended from James T. Orman, except for the small details and minutiae that might be found in "family notes" (sources: bibles, correspondance, legal documents, etc.). Since the family seems so firmly involved in the history of Franklin County, it is hoped that present-day descendants might be able and willing to add to the data already collected. I, personally, would like to ask for any information about the CSA military service of James Morrison Orman(d), said to have served in the 7th Alabama Cavalry; a "J. Orman" appears on the muster of that regiment. It should be noted that the name James Morrison Orman was *not* found on the rolls of Co. E, 11th Alabama Cavalry, or ont he rolls of any Company in the 4th (Roddey's) Alabama Cavalry. (Remember: James Morrison Orman(d) dropped the "d" from his name during his lifetime.) Please write to me directly if you wish to share family history.

HARPER,HULSEY,CHAFFIN,DAVIS,BYRD are all family lines I am interested in. My great-grandfather Charles Christopher Harper married my great-grandmother Jessie Evergreen Hulsey supposedly in Franklin,or Marion County Alabama or Itawamaba County Mississippi. This was in Jan. 04,1904. Her father was Johnny Franklin Husley, and her sister was Johnny Hulsey. Her mother was Julia Ann Davis and Julia's father was Jefferson Byrd Davis, or Bridge Davis. I thought Byrd might be his mother's maiden name. Charles Harper had two brother James, and John. I have no idea who their parents were that is where I am stuck. Family folklore indicates that Charles's mother was Cherokee and that she died while he was a baby by falling into the fireplace and dying. The Harpers moved to Oklahoma during the land runs and lived in the White Bead,Pauls Valley, and Wynnewood Oklahoma area in the early 1900's. Thank you for any information. I am just collecting information on any of the above names in hopes of finding connections.

I have a William and MaryFISHER that were listed on the Franklin Co., AL 1900 census. William was listed as born in Alabama in May 1845 and Mary was listed as born in Alabama in July 1847. They have a son, John C. (whom I think is John Calvin), born in Alabama November 1885 and a granddaughter, Florence Fisher, born in Alabama September 1890. I believe that all of the above except Florence are buried in Hale Cemetery (also known as Gravel Hill) which I think is on LaGrange road. I requested a social security application copy from the government and it listed her parents as Bud Fisher and LauraYOCUM. I have information on Laura, but I have absoluty nothing on Bud, such as what was his proper name - I doubt it was Bud. I also have nothing on William and Mary (Florence's grandparents). Florence married DreweyJAMES in Russellville and lived all of her life there as far as I know. Does anyone know this family???? Thanks! Joni

I am seeking information on my great grandfather, Benjamin FranklinNELSON and great grandmother, PhobieDEMPSEY Nelson both of whom I think were from Franklin County, Ala. He along with his two brothers, George and James left Alabama sometime before 1885. My grandfather, John M., was born in Mississippi in 1885. About six years later, 1891 or 1892, the family moved to Texas. Ben Franklin settled in or around Klondyke, TX; James or George settled in Granbury, TX; and the other settled, I believe, in or around Cleveland, TX.
