1.  STEPHEN A.3 WHITEHURST  (*JOHN WESLEY2, *?1) was born 1813 in Henry Co. AL, and died in Henry Co., AL.  He married (1) HONEY A. SUSAN (FANY A?) WHITEHURST Abt. 1839 in AL.  She was born 1819.  He married (2) FANNIE A. ? (?2ND W/O STEPHEN A. WHITEHURST?) Abt. 1850 in Henry Co., AL.

1850 Henry Co., AL census lists wife as Fany A., age 23, born in GA. Children John 11, Seaborn S. 8, James 6, Thomas J. 4, and W. J. 6/12, but in 1940 census with wife who was 20-30. by Linda Whitehurst. <lwhiteh@airmail.net>

This part of family taken from 1860 census Abbeville, AL., Rt. 2 (Lawrenceville Comm) Copy from Luther Medlock in FL.  In 1870 census, Henry Co., AL. Sarah J. Scotts, 14; George A. Scotts, 13; Lundsford, 10; Daniel J. Whitehurst, 8; and Emma, 3 are listed with his family.

1850 Census of AL., Stephen was listed as a farmer with a value of $500.  In the 1860 Census, Stephen's property value was $1028.
Lists wife as Fannie A.  Could she be second wife?

James Waller "Wally" Whitehurst <whitewal@inebraska.com>: June 8, 1999 E-mail from Paula Smith re CSA Record of John Wesley Whitehurst, her husband's great grandfather- (This confirms his middle name as "Wesley", and not the son of Micajah,  "John M.", born about 1837 per 1850 Henry Co., AL census): "John Wesley Whitehurst: Born 1839; died 1919, Co.D, 39th AL.Infantry,  Enlisted as Third Corpl,.at Cowarts, AL on 4.3.1862.  Promoted at 3rd Sgt. Catered (Captured) at Salisbury, NC on 4/12/1865.  Sent to Louisville, KY and forwarded to Camp Chase,OH.  Took oath on 6/13/1865 at Camp Chase.  Residence listed as Henry Co., AL.  Age as 26 years.  Shows him as 5' 9 1/2" tall, with dark hair, dark complexion, and grey eyes."  Copies of his CSA record on file.  jww

6/13/1999 from Carolyn Whitehurst Nichols: Cemetery record is Cowarts Cemetery, Dothan, AL.  John W. (no dates, only a CSA marker stating Regiment. Nancy has dates, b. 9/1/1830 (should be 1840?) death April 3, 1895.

7/14/1999  Interview of C. R. Smith, son of Ida Whitehurst Smith, stated that John
Wesley Whitehurst had 4 boys and 5 girls.  The oldest, couldn't remember his name, died in a wagon, probably heart attack, and the Mule or horse, took him home..he was dead when he got there. (1800 Henry Co.,AL census shows a son, Thomas, age 18... perhaps this was him?)  jww

Notes for WILLIAM JOHNSON (JOHN) WHITEHURST:
Most information on this family group from Mike Walker:  "He was Irish (according do Mabel Cooley Williford), and carried a walking stick.  He was so good at using it, he could hunt with it and kill rabbits and squirrls by throwing the stick at them!  Source #63 indicates that John was 49 in June 1900 and had been married 20 years (putting his marriage sometime in 1880).  The same source said he was born in 1851, was a farmer, he could read but not write, his father was born in NC and his mother in AL.  He was renting his farm at the time of the Census."  (#63?)
