The Hunt’s Spring Chapter was organized in 1974, with Mrs.
William A. Estes as the founding regent. From a group of 36
founding members, the chapter has grown to about 200 members in the
Huntsville/Madison area.
Our chapter name honors
both settler John Hunt, the Revolutionary War soldier who gave his
name to the limestone spring known to the local Indians as Big
Spring, and the first settlement of the area, called Hunt’s Spring.
The actual spring is now the focus of downtown Huntsville’s Big
Spring Park.
