What is the DAR?

The DAR is an 112 year-old non-profit, non-political, world-wide, service organization, devoted to historic preservation, education, and patriotic endeavor.

Why should I join the DAR?

Mary S. Lockwood, first Historian General, who stated, 112 years ago: "EVERY WOMAN  in the land who is eligible to this society, owes it to her country to become a member, not alone that she maybe simply be a DAR; but that she may be a helper in ferreting out the names of the makers of the history of this country, and to see that the names of her ancestors become a part of the historical records of our land."

What Are the Top Ten Reasons to Join DAR?

1.  You are interested in genealogy,
2.  You believe your ancestor might have aided in the Revolution War for American freedom,
3.  You have a love for education,
4.  You have a love for patriotism,
5.  You have a love for historical preservation,
6.  You like to volunteer,
7.  You want to be involved with service organizations and the community,
8.  You enjoy programs and speakers; American History fascinates you,
9.  You love to socialize,
10. You like meeting new people.

How can I become a member?

Any woman is eligible for membership who is no less than eighteen years of age and can prove lineal, blood line descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence. She must provide documentation for each statement of birth, marriage, and death.

What if I need help finding an ancestor or filling out my application papers?

The James Gadsden Chapter Registrar and the Lineage Research Committee will assist you with your ancestors, proof, and DAR papers.  Many of these daughters are members of the Genealogical Society and have helped many ladies over the years find their ancestors.  The State and National Societies also have chairmen to assist you with your research.
