Lawrence County Alabama

Created in 1818, th ecounty is named in honor of
Captain James Lawrence,
famous for his war of 1812 battle cry "Don't give up the
ship!"
Lawrence County has a population of 31,513 and covers 696 square
miles. More than
100,000 acres of that is Bankhead National Forest. The Countys
many
historic sites included: General Joe Wheelers Home, The McMahon
Home,
where the Red Rovers were originally organized, Oakville Indian
Mounds
Park and Museum, Jesse Owens Memorial Park, Pine Torch Church,
Courtland
Presbyterian Church, Wheeler Dam, and the Sipsey Wilderness Area.
