The May Family Reconstruction Project

William and Elizabeth "Betsy" Browning May came to Lowndes County before 1830.  William died in the Benton area and is likely buried in the Mt. Gilead Church Cemetery, Trickem, as he was its first pastor.  A DNA study is being done for William and Elizabeth's male descendents.  If you are a male descendent of the male line (no daughters for this study, sorry), please go to The MAY Family Reconstruction Project.  The goal is to try to determine from which May William is descended, and to truly connect all May families to the correct original immigrant to the New World.

Update on the Concord Cemetery Memorial Association:

Help Needed to Preserve  Pioneer Lowndes County Cemetery

The annual meeting of the Concord Cemetery Memorial Association will be held beginning with a picnic lunch at Noon on Sunday, April 19, 2009, at the Concord Cemetery, located in the Lowndes CO Industrial Park.  All interested persons are invited to attend.  Take the Tyson exit off Interstate 65 and head toward Tyson, drive past the Flying-J, cross the railroad tracks and continue to the intersection of Wasden Road (Highway 26) and Highway 6.  Drive into the Lowndes County Industrial Park.  Concord Cemetery is on the left before reaching the Daehan plant.  More information may be obtained from RaeVCalvert@aol.com or mavenable@charter.net

The earliest marker found in the pioneer Concord Methodist Church Cemetery is dated 12 MAY 1841.  A  listing of the known burials can be found at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/al/lowndes/cemeteries/concord.txt
