Publications of Interest for Lowndes County

The Lowndes County Historical and Genealogical Society currently has for sale copies of "Lowndes Court House: A Chronicle of Hayneville, an Alabama Black Belt Village, 1820-1900," by Mildred Brewer Russell. This book is about the early years of Hayneville, the county seat through the Civil War and then some. An index added after publication is included. Marriage records from 1830 through 1871 are in the back of the book, though some of these are incorrect. Marriage records for Lowndes County can be found by clicking here.

CENSUS RECORDS
SK Publications has for sale indexed census books for many counties in many states. They also are in the process of creating CD's with the actual images of each census. Each book has a type written index and are the actual images of each page. The CD's do not have an index. These are currently being input by volunteers into the USGenWeb Project census archives.
