History of Marble Valley Chapter The Marble Valley Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Sylacauga, Alabama, was officially organized on October 8, 2005, with 13 organizing members signing the Organizational Form.  Front Row:  L-R  Sally Holland and Marcella Gooch. Brief History:    The single, most important geographical feature of Sylacauga, Alabama, is the large deposit of marble 400 feet deep and 30 miles long that lies beneath the city and surrounding area.  Marble from quarries in Talladega County have been described by artists and geologists as some of the purest and hardest in the world. Examples of Sylacauga marble can be found all over Alabama and places such as Tennessee, New York, Illinois, Washington, DC, and California.  The bust of Lincoln that is in the Nations capital was carved from Sylacauga marble.  The Lincoln Monument and the U. S. Supreme Court Building are all partially constructed from the pure Sylacauga marble.  Locally, uses of the marble can be seen in the Marble City Cemetery, in the old Sylacauga City Hall and Isabell Comer Museum.    Because of the prominent place that marble has in the history of Sylacauga, we thought it appropriate to name our DAR Chapter,  Marble Valley.    National Motto: "God, Home and Country" State Theme: "Keeping the Vision of the Future" Membership Questions please email:   Sandra Sims
