Norton John T. NORTON who is listed as the father on the death certificate of my great-grandmother, Dora Isabella (NORTON) THRASHER. The first record I have of him is the 1860 Randolph Co., AL census where J. T. was living with his parents (James and Lila) and siblings. By the time of the 1870 census he is living in the household of Thos. J. LOOSIER as a farm laborer in Lawrence Co., AL while next door are John's parents, James and Celia A. (?) NORTON. The 1880 Lawrence Co., AL census gives Sallie as the head of household which includes a "Jim" as a boarder. This Jim would be about the right age to be her husband, but if so, it's unclear why he would not be listed as the head. Census records have different names for James' wife but all are believed to be the same person.
In 1880 John is living in Winston Co., AL with his wife Matilda (Tilda) E. (KING) NORTON where Dora I. is the oldest of five children. John and Matilda appear in the 1900 and 1910 Lawrence Co., AL census records. The 1900 Lawrence Co., AL census gives John's birthdate as June, 1845 and Matilda's as May, 1855. By 1920, John, a widower, is living with Dora's family in Morgan Co., AL. In this census his name is given as William in error. John and Matilda appear numerous times in land and tax records in Lawrence County, but no death record or burial place has been found for John or Matilda. Any assistance or suggestions would be appreciated.

Reed I am looking for the parents of John A. REED, born August 01, 1834 in Laurens Co., SC and died January 16, 1904 in Lawrence Co., AL. He was married to Nancy Ann BROWN November 03, 1856 in Lawrence County. Due to proximity on census records and dates, I originally assumed his parents were Thomas and Manerva Reed, who also listed their place of origin as SC. However, recently I have begun to doubt that parentage. John A. was, according to family tradition, brought to Alabama "kicking and screaming" when he was about 9 years old. Why was he so reluctant to come? What if he was an orphan, forced to move to Alabama with his Grandparents and siblings? The 1850 Bibb County Census lists 70 year old Mary A. Reid as head of household with Mary, 17 and John A. 15 of SC. Next door is Elizabeth Reid BRACKNELL and her husband John and family. By 1860, John is married and living in Lawrence County. The surname is spelled both Reed/Reid on early family tombstones in Lawrence County. Can anyone support this connection or give me more information on John's parents?
Reid I am looking for the maiden name of Mahala (Mahalia) Caroline REID who was born May 19 1834 in Georgia. Both of her parents were born in North Carolina. This is according to her statement on the census. Sometime before 1854 she married Hamilton C. Reid. He was born September 13, 1833 probably in Monroe Co. MS. He was the son of SYNTHA LOCHRIDGE and ELI REID.
Mahala and Hamilton lived in Marion County, AL; Itawamba County, MS; and for a short period of time in Tennessee (unknown county). Mahala died November 26, 1899, and Hamilton died April 5, 1903. Both are buried in the Shottsville Cemetery in Marion Co. AL. In Hamilton’s will dated 27 July 1901,and recorded 4 May,1903, in Vol.1, p.103, Marion Co. Al. Will Book, he names:
Granddaughter, Missouri Caroline Reid; Daughter Mary J. COLEBURN; Son Warren S. Reid; Son John T. Reid, ; Son D. S. Reid; Son Henry Reid's children (Henry being deceased) James Henderson Reid, John Thomas Reid; William Lighu Reid; Ardelia (Cordelia)Reid. Warren S. Reid states in a Petition to Marion Co. AL. Probate Court on 6 May 1907:

I will appreciate any assistance you might be able to give me, and I will be pleased to share any of my research on this family and others in the Marion County, AL area. Sanderson My great-great-great grandfather was James Strange SANDERSON. I have been unable to prove that he was a son of Joseph Sanderson and Sarah STRANGE. However, my mother's cousin did personal interviews with family back in the 50's and 60's (and probably much earlier). (She was Virginia Chapman STOVALL, a school teacher, born 1897 died 1980). She and other cousins, aunts, etc. recounted that James Strange Sanderson WAS a child of Sarah and Joseph, but in a will by James' grandfather did not mention him.
On January 25, 1840, in Limestone County, Alabama, James Strange Sanderson married Martha (Mary) Eliza HARRIS, the daughter of Jessie Harris. Mary Eliza Harris was born September 13, 1819, in Alabama. Her brother, Woodson Terrel Harris, with his family, resided several years in Ellis County and at Chatfield, Navarro County, Texas.
Here is what I currently have:
Children of SARAH STRANGE and JOSEPH SANDERSON are:
i. JAMES STRANGE SANDERSON, b. June 08, 1816, Madison County, Alabama; d. October 03, 1890, Bardwell, Ellis County, Texas.
ii. MORRIS J. SANDERSON, b. March 14, 1829; d. November 01, Texas. iii. EDMUND SANDERSON, b. April 18, 1819, Limestone County Alabama; d.November 24, 1889, Texarkana, Arkansas. iv. ELIZABETH G. SANDERSON, b. Abt. 1824.v. SOPHIA SANDERSON, b. Abt. 1815; m. __ WEEKS.
Notes for SOPHIA SANDERSON:
Some claim the Sophia who married ? Weeks was a daughter of Morris and Hannah Strange Sanderson. When the James Strange Sandersons migrated to Texas from Bossier Parish, Louisiana after the Civil War, about 1869, with them they brought the two orphaned children of Hannah Aurora (Sanderson) Wheeler, the daughter of Morris and Hannah (Strange) Sanderson. Appreciate anything you can add to this. I have more information.

Sullivan RUSSELL SULLIVAN, N.C. or S.C., VA., MS., TN., TUSCALOOSA CO. AL.
I've researched the Ancestry and relatives of Russell Sullivan, my gr. gr. grandfather for over 30 years. He first appeared in Johnston Co. N.C. in 1816. There Russell appeared in court with a Jesse Sullivan, thought to be related. He married Isabel PUGH of Johnston County and migrated with a large family to Tuscaloosa Co. (Echola), Alabama between 1830 and 1835. My research has taken me to the above states where same and similar family names have been recorded but no hard, fast evidence of connections can be determined. Russell's estimated Date of Birth, according to census data, is somewhere between 1789 and 1795. Place of birth and parentage are unknown. Russell Sullivan > Dempsey Sullivan > Thomas Presley Sullivan > James "John" Houston Sullivan > Thomas Michael "Mike" Sullivan.
