| The Princess Sehoy
Chapter held a tribute to
World War II veterans on Wednesday, June 14, 2006, Flag Day.
The tribute and memorial was held at Canterbury Methodist Church.
State Senator Hank Erwin was the speaker. (Senator Erwin is
the son of Henry "Red" Erwin, Congressional Medal of Honor
Recipient in World War II.) Mr. Bob Thomas, Vice President of the Birmingham SAR, read a
tribute for each of the 25 veterans attending - citing their rank,
medals earned and military action during the War - and held a
Memorial Service for those deceased veterans, related to members
of the Princess Sehoy Chapter.
The Color Guard from the
SAR, Sons of the American Revolution - Lieutenant Colonel Glenn Nivens
and Eddie Bowling, accompanied by Bagpiper Daniel Douglas - opened
the service.
A reception in the church
followed, where the veterans, their guests, and DAR members
enjoyed refreshments and exchanged WWII stories and memorabilia.
The church parlor was decorated in red, white, and blue flower
arrangements in honor of the veterans and Flag Day. The
veterans displayed some of their personal photographs and medals
from World War II.
The members of the
planning committee included Joan Lightfoot, Pauline Fugazzotto,
Bob and Jo Thomas, Peggy Smith, Callie Hines, Sarah Dodd, and Hope
McCarrell. |
