| ALGenWeb: County Index: Randolph County |
In 1832, the Alabama Legislature created Randolph County from land ceded by the Creek Indians, naming the county for John Randolph, a Virginia statesman. The county seat was established in Wedowee.
All probate records were destroyed in a courthouse fire in 1897. This can make research difficult, but alternate sourcescan sometimes be used to overcome the loss of official records.
The public library in Roanoke contains a small collection of books on genealogy and local history.
There are a number of published books on Randolph County history and genealogy.
The Alabama Room of the Anniston-Calhoun County Public Library contains local history and genealogical records of Randolph County as well as [an error occurred while processing this directive]Calhoun [an error occurred while processing this directive]Clay, [an error occurred while processing this directive]Cleburne, and [an error occurred while processing this directive]Talladega counties.
The AlaBenton Genealogical Society meets in the Ayers Room of the Anniston-Calhoun County Public Library.
