BURKES, BURKS posted by Sammye Mantooth on Thursday, September 4, 2003

We are attempting to locate Tillman BURK(E)S in the 1870 decade. He was shown in Pike Co. AL in 1860; Tallapoosa County, AL in 1880. His daughter, Susan Anna BURKS and his son, James A. BURKS both married in September of 1873 in Tallapoosa Co. We assume the family lived in the vicinity for the 1870 census. Family records indicate his homestead was very near the Darian Primitive Baptist Church and Cemetery. He is buried in Darian Cemetery located on the Chambers/Randolph line. Does anyone have information about him and more importantly his spouse's name in the early 1870's? Thanks, S. Mantooth--a gggranddaughter

HARDY, WALKER posted by Janice Cox Brown on Saturday, September 27, 2003

In a book titled, "Randolph Co., Alabama, Sixty-Two Years Ago; The Red Man's Home, The White Man's Eden," written by J. M. K. Quinn 1894-1896, is mentioned Sylvanus WALKER, sheriff on October 26, 1839. Sylvanus was mentioned as being Tax Assessor in May 1838, Tax Collector and Sheriff in May 1838. Another comment was that he was one of the early settlers to the county. Does anyone know how I can discover the names of the children of Sylvanus WALKER? Is there a reader who can do a look-up for me of other WALKERs, McGILLs, HARDY in this book? WALKERs married into the McGILL and HARDY families there in Randolph County, in 1843, 1846 and 1847. Does anyone know if Tax Records are available for Randolph Co. from 1830 to 1850 and where I could buy the microfilm?
