Hello to everyone,
I have finally finished the story. Many thanks to all who contributed and
This story is a Civil War account of Winston County (mainly the Curtis
brothers who were killed), which builds up to Winston's Union soldiers and
sympathizers raiding the town of Jasper, releasing the prisoners in the old
jail (which I might add is EXTREMELY near where the jail is now!), and then
burning said jail. This event has been recreated just about the best it ever
will I'm afraid, and all the details have been combined into one factual
document. So as to not confuse anyone, this is what happened two months
BEFORE Wilson's Raid into Jasper, which finished burning and raiding Jasper.

I need information on the descendants of Charles
Aaron, born about 1796 in Orangeburg, S.C., who married Mary A.
Minor about 1818 in S.C. Mary was born 1800 in S.C. His family came from
Franklin, Ga., about 1834-35 and settled around Ryan's Creek that was
then a part of Walker County and later divided into what is now Cullman
County. Their known children were John born 1818, James D. born 1819,
who married Sally Sarah Chambers, William Green, born October 5, 1821,
who married first Margaret Powell, then Jane Catherine Key, Samuel C.
born October 29, 1829, who married Sarah Martha Jane Light, Charles M.
born July 7, 1833, who married Margaret Johnson, Elizabeth born 1835 and
Jasper Aaron born 1843. Contact Peggy A. Young, 377 Cooke Road,

Does anyone have the cemetery listings for Walker Co.,
that would be willing
to do a lookup?
I'm trying to find what cemetery my gg-aunt and her husband are buried in
and the dates on their tombstone. I was told that she was buried in or
Cordova, but I'm not sure if her husband is buried there as well. This
the information I have for them:
Alice J Kelly/Kelley b. January 30, 1860 AL
Samuel J "Bud" Johnson b. Bet. 1854 - 1856 AL
Married on May 27, 1877
Alice was the daughter of William T Kelley and Mary S Roberson who lived in
Romulus, Tuscaloosa Co.
I'm trying to locate the family of John F. and Mary A. Matson in the
1910 census. Mary died there in 1936. I would expect any Matson surname
listed in the census would be related to me and thus have an interest in any
Matson info you could supply.

I am seeking info on Volley Townley who
married Minnie Gill in possibly the early 1900s. Later, they lived in
or near Townley. They are possibly buried in Holly Grove Cem. Does
anyone have info on their descendants and, hopefully, their ancestors?
