Historical Journal of the African American Experience in Arkansas
Journal Submissions
Articles for the June issue 2006 should be submitted via email to the
editor no later than April 1, 2006.
Articles for the December issue 2006 should be submitted via email to
the editor of the Journal no later than October 1, 2006.
Articles should be typed double spaced in the form of a Word or Word
Perfect document. Please do not use headers or footers. Please do not
include page numbers.
Author Cover Page must be submitted with each article that includes:
name, mailing address, daytime and evening telephone numbers, e-mail
address, title of the article, synopsis, and a brief biographical statement
of no more than 10 sentences, including historical and genealogical affiliations.
Articles should be submitted with endnotes/references. Please highlight
the names of each individual and include an alphabetical list of names.
Topics (not limited to these but if you have questions concerning topics,
please direct them to the Journal Editor):
- Each Issue will have featured articles under the headings of: President's
Corner, Notable Black Arkansans, Book Review and Genealogy
and History from around the Globe .
- Arkansas Cemetery Transcription – location (ex.
Pearcy, Garland County, Arkansas), driving directions, church history
(if affiliated with a church), and/or cemetery history.
- Arkansas Church Histories – Please limit submissions
to churches that are 50 years or older.
- Family Histories – information that you have researched
on families, where they lived, why they settled in the area, way
of living, oral histories, hobbies, etc.
- Historical Black Colleges and Universities.
- African American Schools/School Board Meetings/Rosenwald Schools .
- Arkansas Free Persons of Color Census Transcription – by
county, township, etc.
- Black Communities/Neighborhoods – (ex. Pankey,
Sweet Home, etc.) Please include who (founded by Mary Smith), what,
when (established in 1882), where (Sweet Home, Arkansas) and how.
- Blacks and the Railroad
- Blacks in the Newspapers/Newspaper Transcriptions
- African American Lynchings in Arkansas
- Arkansas Plantation Family Papers Relating to Slaves
- History of African American Farmers and Sharecroppers in Arkansas
- African Americans Paying Poll Tax in Arkansas
