Goodhope
Primitive Baptist Cemetery sits alongside of Hwy. 275, about 6 miles south of
the community of Strong, Union County, Arkansas on the east side of the highway.
It is near the community of Oakland, Louisiana. Hwy. 275 is also
referred to as Oakland Road. The sign is faded and hard to read, but it
spells ""Goodhope" as one word. The old church sets
farther back from the highway and up by the far eastern end of the
cemetery. May 6, 2005: Janice Holzer
The following information was copied from a book of cemetery
surveys, compiled of Union County cemeteries, about 1970, by Juanita Buckley
Hancock. The title is “Cemetery
and Bible Records of Union County, Arkansas,” Pages 125 - 131. These books are found in the Barton Library of El Dorado. I hope to visit this cemetery in the future
& do my own survey.
**March 29, 2003:
some additional information for this cemetery was graciously given to me
by Lillian McGowan Craig of El Dorado, who along with her husband surveyed the
cemetery in 1993. Updated this cemetery
April 10, 2004 from a canvass done by Basil & Lillian Craig and
Ralph O. & Violet Weldon, April 29, 1993. Update for this cemetery: April 10, 2004. I still need to visit the cemetery to update the burials between
1993 & todate.
** My use of the symbol
“&” indicates a double or
shared tombstone between two or more people.
