How to use this page for genealogy research
This page is divided into three separate areas: Union Units, Civil War Research, and Confederate Units. If you are looking for information on a particular unit, go to that section. Please scan the Research Section, there are some valuable links there. Also some good stories to indicate the life and hardships of those in the two armies, as well as those who stayed behind to keep the homestead going. I did not try to make this an all inclusive site. It is just a starting point. There are tons of good Civil War research sites out there. I attempt to find and link to them, but it is sometimes a moving target, so please check the Automated Links System for further information. If you find a bad link, let em know, I'll attempt to fix or remove it.

Memorial Honor Roll is a listing of those ancestors who served, provided by their descendants. There is an e-mail contact for most names just in case there is a family link. This is an automated system, you can add your own ancestors to the roster. Just fill in the form provided.. |

Edward G. Gerdes Civil War Homepage is a must visit site if you are doing any research on Arkansas Civil War units. Contains histories of many of the units and rosters of many. A treasure house of Civil War information.
The Memorial Honor Roll included here are names of Civil War participants contributed by family researchers. Please limit them to Arkansas residents (before, during, or after the war) or members of Arkansas units.
Links System - included here are links to Unit Histories, Research Sites and other valuable information.

The Southern Loyalist - A divided nation
The Civil War Comes to Wolf Bayou (Cleburne County) includes rosters
The Civil War Memoirs of Joseph M. Bailey - this is a lengthy description of life in the Confederate Army and the hardships of those at home in Arkansas during the Civil War. Provides an outstanding example of life during those times.
Confederate Roll of Honor - the Roll of Honor was established to recognize bravery during the Civil War. The south had a shortage of metal, so awards were not easily made. To compensate the Confederate Congress passed an ordinance allowing each company to submit the name of a brave man, recognized by the company, after a battle. These names were read before the regiment at the next dress parade and sent to the Confederate Congress for recognition. This Roll of Honor is under construction, but I wanted to post it as I worked on it, just in case one of your ancestors were honored.
