Timber Industry in McDougal
Submitted by Rita Hicks DonCarlos

McDougal History

This photo tells the story of the timber industry, in which many early McDougal families were involved. With virgin timber throughout the area, families relied on the income of delivering logs to local rail yard.

Not only did logging play a major role, so did depots and rail lines that connected small towns together. Through these lines, timber was delivered to large industrial cities throughout the U. S.

Sitting on a pile of logs in front of the depot is Ethel Cate and Eathel Galyean. Ethel was the daughter of Elder T. L. and Nora Cate. Eathel was the daughter of Elbert and Mertie (Parrish) Galyean. Eathel married Van Cate, father of Glen Cate.
