Last Will & Testament
of
Charles Stokes

Submitted by Juli Risener Morgan

From Charles Stokes' Will dated March 25, 1903. I do not know which book this will is filed in or the page number. I'm assuming it is at the courthouse in Piggott.

"I Charles Stokes ... being in ill health, but of sound and ? mind and memory..."

"I hereby constitute and appoint my three Sons AJ Stokes, JH Stokes, and FM Stokes to be the Executors of this..."

"After the payment of my said debts and funeral expenses I want the reside of my estate to be divided equally between A.J. Stokes, JH Stokes and FM Stokes and that the executors are required to value the property so divided and pay three seventh value of said property to QC Vancil, Nancy A. Hollis and JR Stokes, in Cash, as their necessasities may require..."

"Thus PL Stokes is to receive her share of the estate as soon as the same is divided."

"It is understood that I have deeded to all of my children some land. With one exception Nancy A. Hollis, I have decided not to deed her any land but instead to pay her Three Hundred Dollars..."

"It is my Will, that my executors see that JR Stokes is properly cared for, and that they take charge of his property and manage it for him to the best advantage.... And if his property is not sufficient to support him, then it is my desire, that my children each contribute enough to furnish him a good living and that he be in the care of some of the family all the time as long as he lives. "

"In making this Will, I have not intended to in any way infringe on any rights which my wife Susan Stokes has to the property above mentioned, according to law, and I would not want any part of this Will executed prior to my wife's death without her consent."

In a Codicil to his Will dated July 25, 1904:

"I do hereby revoke the said legacy by my said will giving to said QC Vancil and I do give to her the said QC Vancil, the sum of File Dollars, only, and I do rulify and confirm my said Will in everything except where the same is hereby revoked."
