He came to Craighead County, AR from AL in 1857; helped organize Craighead Co and was elected first county treasurer and served 1859-60. His wife was Nancy PENIX, who was b in 1817 in AL and was probably sister of W. R. PENIX who also came to AR with them. She d 7 Apr 1877, probably in Craighead Co, though no record found. The family is listed in 1850 census in Benton County, AL; 1860 & 1870 census in Craighead County; Thomas was listed 1880 census in Yell County, AR, where he d 13 Jan 1886. I have searched Gandrud's AL records and find no other trace of Thomas NELSON or the PENIX family in AL. I am at a dead end, it seems. Any help out there? Will gladly exchange data on descendants.

Looking for information on my mother's past. She was orphaned. Born Sept. 8, 1938 in Craighead County Hospital in Jonesboro. The first name given her was Ethel Lavera WILSON (a close spelling). The first family she remembers living with had the last name McKALIP and lived somewhere near Gilkerson (near some railroad tracks). She was eventually permanently adopted by E. Roy KELLER and became Jane KELLER. Her uncle was a county judge at the Craighead County courthouse. She believes a Judge WHEATLEY (sp?) handled the so-called adoption transaction. She knows that she has two sisters: Virginia - whose married name at one time was "PARKS" and Betty - who at some point in time lived somewhere in Oklahoma.
