The Hunter-Coulter House was built in 1918 by Henry Westbrook. The house is named for the two families that owned it. William Grant Hunter was the first owner. He ran an undertaking business in Ashdown until his death on September 13, 1925. His wife, Nancy, sold the house to Dr. John W. Coulter (a local dentist) in 1928. Dr. Coulter died in 1962, and his wife, Verda Mae, continued to live in the house until her death in 1987, when the house was eventually sold to Mr. and Mrs. Ed Russell. On August 31, 1993, the house was sold to the Little River County Historical Society and remains in its care to this day. On June 20, 1996 the Hunter-Coulter House was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The museum serves as a reminder of Ashdown's early history. Exhibits include period furniture, antique farm tools and early education memorabilia. The Little River County Historical Society holds their monthly meetings and special events at this museum.
