QRYTEXT: I need to find out
information on a man called "Pappy"
Stewart.
He owned a radio station in Blytheville sometime in the first
half of
the 1900's.
If I could just find out his real first name-or even the
name of
the radio station would be a tremendous help.
Believe he was my
husband's
grandmother's cousin.I've been trying to find info.
on her (and her
sister)
for quite some time.
They were left at an orphanage in Tipton Co.,TN.
in
1909.
They tried unsuccessfully their whole lives to find their older
brother
or other family.
This "Pappy" Stewart's genealogy would hold the clue-
if I
could only find out his real first name.
Any help you could provide
would be
greatly appreciated.
Thank You,

QRYTEXT: I have been unable to track down
any record of my grandmother, Grace MacIntosh, who lived in the town of
Blytheville, Arkansas, during the years 1920 - 1945 (approximately). She
operated the town switchboard (out of her home) at the time of the Stock
Market Crash and during the Great Depression, and raised six children:
Thelma, Sybil, LaVerne, Reginald, Maple, and Bonnie Ruth (my mother -
b.1922).
I would also like to find some information about her husband - my
grandfather - but I don’t have a first name. I was told that they were
divorced while my mother was still a child. I don’t even know what he did
for a living.
I can recall a conversation between my mother, my Aunt Laverne, and my
Aunt Maple, just prior to my mother’s death in 1975, wherein mention was
made of an “accused” child murderer in our family. But the speaker was
“hushed” and
nothing more was said about it, except that it was “back when they hung
you first and asked questions later.”
My grandmother had a glass paperweight that stayed on her bedside table
until the day she died. I asked her once where she got it and was told
that a man she knew had made it in prison. After my grandmother’s death,
my Aunt LaVerne took possession of it, and when I asked her about it
once, she feigned ignorance (but she too kept it until she died). Then it
was turned over to my Aunt Maple, the last surviving child, who kept it
for several years until, at my
request, she gave it to me. Nothing was said regarding its origin.
I would like to know if my grandfather was involved in something of this
kind, if he served time in prison, and if that was the reason for the
divorce. I know my grandmother lived in Manilla, Arkansas, at one time,
and had a sister named Minnie. I believe they were both born in
Tennesee. My grandmother’s birthdate is January 26, 1883.
Could you give me some advice on how to go about getting this
information? For instance, was “Bell Telephone” the name of the company
that handled Arkansas’s telephone operations back in the 30s? And what
information could I
get from the state’s criminal court system? Any information or advice
you could give me would be very appreciated.
Thank you,

QRYTEXT: In researching and finding a
gr-gr grand-uncle named John R. (Richard)
Mahoney, b. 1846 in White Sulphur Springs (W.)VA and d. 1918 (Milford
Illinois
),
we discovered that he was a Civil War Veteran and had a pension file.
John was
a private in Indiana 33rd Regiment Company "K" (Sept. 1861-July 1865) and
was with 'Coburn's Brigade' in the Atlanta Campaign. His last march was
with
Sherman- to -the -sea.
John volunteered w/ his father Timothy Mahony from Warren Co., Indiana,
leaving
his mother Hannah (Flesher) Mahony and 8 siblings in West Lebanon, IN
(Warren Co.). Hannah was struck by lightning in June 1862...the family
was
broken
up and separated. We have not yet found the father Timothy, but now that
we
have his first born son, we hope to unravel a deal more about what
happened
to this family, since almost all of them have been lost to
obscurity.
This file informed us of two daughters that John fathered from a
marriage
that left him a widower. We are thinking that this marriage must have
been in
the
decade AFTER the war (1865-1875) because of the birthdates of the
daughters,
one of which lived in the town of Blytheville, Arkansas (Mississippi
Co.).
The daughters names and birth dates were:
1.Luadia Smotherman-December 26, 1873
2.Georgia Smotherman - June 20, 1886
Georgia is the one referenced to have resided in Blytheville,
Ark.
I regret
that
we cannot provide the mother's name. This information was given on a
'National
Home admittance' list in the year 1904 when John was age 61 yrs., so we
can
assume that Georgia was living in the town of Blytheville in
1904.
Thank you if you can provide any information.
Ellen in CT.
