                                     HELPFUL HINTS

A Family Group Sheet is one of the most useful tools any genealogist can have. A Family Group Sheet

helps you to list and organize the information you “know” about an individual and pinpoint the “sources” of

the information you have. It also shows you what you need to know to search for your roots.

DO NOT become frustrated if suddenly you realize not much is known about the individual and the form

looks “empty”. The NAGS Family Group Sheet © is your “Roadmap to Family Discovery”. Using this

group sheet provides both an information sheet when requesting research from N.A.G.S. and  your

personal information organization record to keep your research organized, detailed, and sourced with all

needed information and facts on one page.

When submitting a “Request for Researchfrom the N.A.G.S., using the following guidelines will result

in gaining the most information from your research request.

  • Please print and submit two (2) N.A.G.S. Family Group Sheets per individual.

    • The first sheet should list the individual as the “Primary Individual” or HUSBAND or WIFE.
    • The second sheet should list the Individual as one of the “CHILDREN” so all known siblings

can be listed which is very helpful when researching census records.

  • Record all known information on the individual(s) and sources (if known). Sources include:
    • Land Grants
    • Census Records
    • Bible Records
    • Wills
    • Church Records
    • War Service Records
    • Tax Records
    • Newspaper Articles
    • Birth Certificates
    • Death Certificates
    • Diaries
    • “First Person Stories”
    • “Family Stories”

Please include any dates, known locations, public records, or anything else you have that can

eliminate double-checking known facts. It is perfectly all right if you do not have any information at

all other than the name and date range the individual was in the 4-county area. We want to add to

your records, not double-check your information unless you want us to verify what you have.

  • Please include all needed information on the form below about YOU and include the stated fees for
  • research and/or copies of articles from The Backtracker.

The Northwest Arkansas Genealogical Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the

family histories and records in the 4-County area that includes Benton, Carroll, Madison, and Washington

Counties in Northwest Arkansas.
