RAMSEY, REYNOLDS, RHODES, SYLAR, VANVLAKE posted by Heather E. Blair on Tuesday, April 3, 2001

I have yet more information on my gg-grandfather Andrew SYLAR (1833-1887) and am interested in talking to other researchers. His first wife was Amanda Rebecca RHODES (abt. 1840-1863). They had two children, James William and Mary. His second wife was Martha REYNOLDS (it's spelled "Runnels" in the marriage record) and her dates are abt. 1855 - 1882. They had several sons. His third wife, my gg-grandmother, was Margaret A. Elizabeth RAMSEY (at least that's the best maiden name I have for her.) Her dates are 1864-1954, and she was first married to U. Gilbert VAN VLAKE. I do not know whether they divorced or he died. She and Gilbert had one son, Gilbert Hill VAN VLAKE. Elizabeth and Andrew SYLAR had several daughters, including my great-grandmother, Cassie SYLAR. After Andrew died, Elizabeth married his son by his first marriage, James. They married in 1889, and he died in 1927. She did not remarry after that. They had two or three daughters and one son. James and Elizabeth reared James's younger half-siblings, Gilbert VAN VLAKE, their own children and one grandchild. I am interested in tracking down Andrew SYLAR'S parents. His mother's first name was Ann, and she lived in his household at least until 1880 (she's there on the census.) She is head of household in 1850 on the Monroe County, MS census. - Heather

POTTER, ROBISON, WILLIAMS posted by Barbara Claiborne on Friday, April 6, 2001

Charles WILLIAMS, my gr.gr.grandfather, born in Phillips Co. Ark. 1855, son of Nathan WILLIAMS and Araminta POTTER WILLIAMS. Who did Charles marry? His daughter Ira Belle WILLIAMS b. 1886 married Perry Benjamin Hale ROBISON in Memphis, Texas and died of ruptured appendix in 1927, (apparently a genetic kink passed down to my brother and my son). Her only surviving child was my grandmother Alice Hayes ROBISON, b.1907, d. 1987 in Memphis, Texas. (Married Ernest WILLIAMS 1924 in Milam Co. Texas.) Ira Belle had such animosity to her family that she refused to speak about them. Her mother's name would be gratefully appreciated.

MANN, WILLIAMS posted by Barbara Craddock Pike on Saturday, April 14, 2001

I posted last year, looking for the descendants of Pendleton MANN, who lived in Helena, Phillips Co., Arkansas. I just found another tidbit of info. In 1981, he had two surviving daughters, one in Helena and one in Little Rock. Their names were Frances and Shade (or Shale...I can't read it in the note I got). I'm not sure which one lived where, and they probably both were married (or widowed) with different last names... Pendleton was born March 1888 in Tennessee, son of Austin MANN and Virginia WILLIAMS MANN, who both died before 1900. I have found a Shade Thomas dying in Pulaski Co in 1995 (possibility)... so it could be Frances that was in Helena. Please write me at barbdale@flash.net, if you have any ideas for me!

BULL, GRAHAM posted by Laurie Nesbitt on Tuesday, April 24, 2001

Does anyone know of a Belletonfontaine Cemetery in or near Helena? My great-great-grandfather, Major James S. GRAHAM died in Helena 1 October 1862, and the newspaper clipping gives that cemetery as the place of burial. He was from Kentucky, but apparently had been in Helena long enough to have friends there, especially a Mr. John C. BULL. If anyone knows anything about any of this, I would appreciate hearing from them. Many thanks. Laurie Nesbitt filnesbitt@bigfoot.com

ADAMS, BIRCH, DWYER, HORTON, JOHNSON, PARHAM, SALISBURY, WILSON posted by Pepper Parham on Saturday, May 19, 2001

I am researching the PARHAM's in Phillips County, Arkansas. This is the info I have: William PARHAM (born around 1860-give or take ten years or so) was born in Tennessee. He married Louise Ella (not sure is this was really her middle name, was told she went by "Lou Ella" and she may have been an Indian, the census record has her a white) WILSON. They had the following children: Patrick Cleaborne PARHAM born 11/22/1882-died 6/3/1930 buried in Helena, AR), Louis Smith PARHAM (born 6/14/1892-died 5/13/1953 buried in Helena, AR), Charles J. PARHAM (born about Sept. 1893), Sallie/Sussie M. PARHAM (Born about May 1886). Something happend to William and Louise's marriage before 1898. Louise remarried to a Gatson ADAMS (not sure if his last name is correct). I found them in a census living in Marion Township (Helena) Phillips County, AR in June of 1900. They had been married for two years at the time of the census. Their son, Patrick C. PARHAM, married Mary BIRCH around 1912-1913(she was married twice before to: a DWYER and then a JOHNSON-I think). They had at least two children: Louis Cleaborne PARHAM (born 9/7/1914) and Patsy Evelyn PARHAM (born 11/24/1925), they may have had another daughter named Effie PARHAM who lived in Helena until she passed away a few years ago. Louis C. PARHAM married Annie Carolyn HORTON 2/10/1938. They had the following sons: Louis Jr., George Patrick (born 5/5/1942), Timothy, and Edward/Eddie. George Patrick PARHAM was married a total of 5 times and he had 7 children. I am from the third marriage - he married Elizabeth "Betty" Albertine SALISBURY in 11/24/1973 and they had me: Patricia Elizabeth PARHAM born 11/19/1976.

LOWERY posted by Deborah Petersen on Thursday, May 24, 2001

Is there a listing of persons buried in Odd Fellows Cemetery? Also does funeral home of Keeshan-Lambert Co still exist? If not who may have their records. I just rec'd ggrfather's death certificate for Arch LOWERY. Date of death May 26 1931. Shows occupation as janitor place of work looks to be Topps Drug Co, and Dr J. A. Baker. Do they still exist? Certificate very hard to read so grasping at straws for any information. Residence was West Park Ave in West Helena. Thanks so much for any information provided.

I am looking for some distant relatives of mine. Matilda ADAMS was born in Mississippi, but she died in Phillips County. She married a KENNEDY (some spell KANNADA) and then a WILLIAMS that I know of. I know she had a daughter, Laura Bell THREADGILL, who died in 1975, in Phillips County. I was interested in more information on this family, especially where they might be buried. Thank you!
