Edmund GOLDER/GOULDER served in the War of 1812 in Virginia and Maryland with his brother, James
GOLDER/GOULDER. His unit was 62nd Regiment (Seldon's) Virginia Militia. He and his brother
were born around Petersburg, VA. James was killed during the war. Edmund showed up in Faulkner County, AR
in 1820 claiming James' bounty land as the only remaining relative. Edmund's son, James B.
GOLDER, is shown as marrying Mary BOND on May 3, 1839, in Phillips County, AR. He was a rafter
in the 1850 Phillips County, AR, census. This family migrated to Fulton County, AR in 1852.
I would like to correspond with anyone researching GOLDER/GOULDER in Arkansas. Ruth Ann Davis.

My grt-grt-grandfather was stationed in Helena with the 2nd Regiment, Arkansas Calvary
Volunteers during the Civil War and, after the war, married a gal at, or near, Phillips Bayou. His name was
Nathaniel FORD and, so far as I know, her maiden name was Pamelia YOUNG. They can be found, listed as
family #109, on the 1870 Census for L'Anguille Township, Phillips County, Phillips Bayou Post Office, Arkansas.
My desire, obviously, is to find something about them...like a marriage license, some record of where they
lived, etc. So far as I know, the area where they lived became part of Lee County in 1873. I also believe
that Pamelia died in about 1872 during child birth of a daughter named Sarah Frances FORD and, since the
husband of Nathaniel's next door neighbor had died of pneumonia, Nathaniel married his neighbor's wife.
The neighbor was Jacob KIZER and the neighbor's wife was Margaret Jane LITTLEFIELD KIZER. I obtained a
copy of their marriage license from the court house in Marianna last March.
At any rate, I am looking for someone to see if they can come up with something on Nathaniel and his first
wife, Pamelia YOUNG. I believe that Pamelia was the daughter of Samuel S. YOUNG who can be found on the 1860 Census
for L'Anguille Township, Phillips County, Sterling Post Office. He and his family are listed as
family #43. Samuel served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War, was captured in Phillips County
and died of pneumonia in a Union Prison in Alton Illinois and is buried in the Confederate Cemetery there.
Can you locate a volunteer who could do some research on Nathaniel and Pamelia for me? I would gladly
reimburse them. I did visit the Helena Courthouse last March but could not locate any records regarding
them. Course I was not familiar with all the records there and I later discovered that some of the early
marriage records for Phillips County are contained in a box that I was not aware of.
It would be nice to find someone familiar with the area between Lagrange and Phillips Bayou. I understand
that there are some cemeteries in the area around Phillips Bayou and it would be wonderful to find Jake
KIZER and/or Pamelia's grave(s). Course, I understand that the likelihood of their markers is somewhat remote.

Edward PORTER -- miller in 1850 census; lumber merchant in 1860 census; lumber merchant in
1870 census; owns sawmill in 1880 census. Married 27 March 1846 Phillips County, AR.
Elizabeth Putnam RIGHTOR, born in Helena 26 April 1827, died in Live Oak, FL 19 July 1907,
dau of Minerva Putnam CRAIG and Nicholas RIGHTOR. He was born in Chester, Illinois 21 April
1824 and died in Helena 20 Feb 1885.
William PORTER, born in Ohio 9 March 1818 according to Biographical and Historical Memoirs
of Eastern Arkansas is possibly his brother. In the 1880 census they are next door neighbors
and he has a son Edward. There is a connection to sawmills. William PORTER's parents were
from Massachusetts but Edward PORTER's parent's birthplaces are not given in the census.
Elizabeth Putnam RIGHTOR is the neice of Waldo Putnam CRAIG who had a sawmill in Helena
around 1837. Her father, Nicholas RIGHTOR, was one of the founders of Helena, AR. Her mother,
Minerva Putnam CRAIG, was the daughter of Capt. Joel CRAIG and Elizabeth PUTNAM who came to AR
before 1820. There is a steamboat/river connection through several generations of these
families. Joel and Elizabeth CRAIG are buried in the Maple Hill cemetery as are numerous
other PORTERs, CRAIGs, and RIGHTORs. Elizabeth's mother, Minerva, is buried there but
Nicholas RIGHTOR's burial is not given in the Turner cemetery book, possibly his grave is
unmarked since he died young and Minerva was pregnant with her 8th child at the time and may
not have been able to put a marker on his grave.
Elizabeth Putnam CRAIG is the granddaughter of General Israel PUTNAM of the Revolutionary
War. Joel CRAIG's father was Elijah CRAIG who was a Baptist preacher from Virginia who
migrated to Kentucky and is sometimes given credit for being the first to distill bourbon
whiskey. It makes a good story!
I am interested in learning more about the PORTER family's origins. I would like to hear
from anyone with information on this family and will be glad to share what I have on them.

I am searching for the parents of Margaret BURK that was married to Hiram ROCK in Phillips Co,
Arkansas. 13 Apr 1847. They had a son John H. ROCK. Apparently Margaret died about 1850 because
Hiram remarried to Mary Jane GRIMES. It also looks like Hiram was married once before Miss BURKE
because he has a daughter Eliza Ann ROCK whom married Isaac VANHOOSER. If you can find any information
on Hiram's parents it would be greatly appreciated. Census records say Hiram ROCK was born in Virginia

They both died during the 60's. They had a farm at Marvell and were well known in the community.
I think they may have attended the Presbyterian church. I am trying to secure this information

John MOORE (26) and Emily DRAKE (20) married 23 Sept 1857, Phillips Co. by James Mackay, minister
of Methodist Episcopal Church South. Mackay states his certificate of credentials recorded @
clerk's office @ Danville, Yell Co. Would this be the Methodist Church or Episcopal nowadays?
Where would these old church records be kept? Looking for a christening or baptismal record for the
two above.

Arkansas. He is featured in GOODSPEED'S BIOGRAPHICAL AND HISTORICAL MEMOIRS OF EASTERN, ARKANSAS, published in
1890, pp. 795 - 796. I would like to find an obituary, a death record, a cemetery plot - anything that I can obtain
that would contain information on his burial site or family information. His father, William ROSE,
remarried after Mary ADKINS died, to a lady named Winifred NEAL. Both are buried on the family farm on

I have a family mystery that I need your advice on, and I've reached a
brick wall here. I have a copy of an old photograph/tintype on which
my
great-grandmother, Dollie RIDDLE, wrote to her daughter, my
grandmother,
in 1969: "This is your great-grandmaw Rachel DAVIDSON. She married a
Mr. LANGLEY. They came from Helena, Arkansas to Mississippi when your
grandmaw [Mary Mitchell Langley Riddle] was nine years old. She
[Rachel] was thirty years old and died three weeks later and is buried
in Boonville [sic]." According to her tombstone, Mary Mitchell Langley
RIDDLE was born in 1856, so she would have been nine in about 1865.
This would mean that her mother, Rachel Davidson LANGLEY, would have
been born in about 1835, or thereabouts. Rachel's photograph suggests
this time period--her hair style and her lace collar and brooch are
1860s style. In Mary Langley RIDDLE's obituary, the writer says that
she spent much of her childhood growing up in Missouri. This suggests
to me that either her maternal or her paternal grandparents were from
Missouri and that she returned there to stay with them after her mother
died. However, her father, Mr. LANGLEY, must have stayed in
Booneville,
Mississippi, because that's where Mary returned when she was a young
woman and where she was living when she married Thomas RIDDLE in 1879.
I can't find a grave or death record in Booneville for Rachel, and I
can't figure out what her husband's first name is, so I'm frustrated in
my research. Do you have a suggestion? I suspect that Rachel and Mr.
Langley were married in Arkansas, or at least lived there for a while,
or they wouldn't have come "from Helena, Arkansas" orginally. Can you
help?
