believe that he lived in Phillips County Arkansas until sometime in the late 1930's. His
wife's name was Druada (maiden name WHITE) who also passed away in the late 1930's or early
1940's. His youngest son is named Rubin HENRY. I would like to find any birth, death or
relative records that the county can provide. Any direction or help in this matter will be
greatly appreciated.

- How would I obtain the birth records of Mary ROGERS born in Richland, Phillips Co., AR
in 1846 to Benjamin and Mary J. ROGERS? They appear in the 1850 census with a daughter
Caroline ROGERS who also would have been born in Richland. Sons Austin 1851, Simon 1854
and William 1857 may have been born in Phillips Co as well. Their first born, James was
born in Mississippi in 1845. They next appear in Carroll Co. AR in 1860. Thank you, Tom

- LEWY
posted by Jeff Lewy
on Sunday, September 4, 2005
- I am seeking information on my great grandparents and their family. I believe Benno
LEWY and Bertha Markus LEWY lived in Helena from about 1875 until the late 1880s. They and
their children appear in Helena in the 1880 US Census. The family is Jewish. Benno was
born in Ostrowo, Prussia (near present-day Poznan, Poland), and immigrated to
Montgomery/Wetumpka AL just before the Civil War (1859-60). He served in a Confederate unit
from AL, and spent a year as a prisoner of war in Indianapolis. He appears in Wetumpka AL
in the 1870 Census, with his wife, Bertha, and 2 children. Bertha was born in "Austria."
I do not know when she arrived in the US. The children were: Cecilia/Celia b 1866 in AL;
Marks, b 1869 in AL; Leonora/Nora b 1871 in AL; Pauline b 1873 in TN; Jay B (Jacob) b 1875 in TN;
Frieda b 1878 in AR; Ervin b 1881 in AR. Benno was a jeweler, watchmaker, and silversmith.
According to a later biography of his son Marks, Benno ran a store in Helena with Marks, and
Marks set up his own store in Helena in about 1887. Benno and all the children moved to
Chicago in about 1890-91. I believe Bertha died in Helena, and that led to the move to
Chicago, where other relatives had already gone, who could help Benno raise the children.
I am looking for any information on the family, in particular: Death record and burial
location for Bertha; Birth records for Frieda and Ervin; Family residence in Helena; Business
in Helena; Arrival in and departure from Helena. If there are sources for any of this
information for the 1870s-1880s, I would like to learn about them. I am able to travel and
can do the research, but do not know where to look. I would also be grateful for any lookups
that someone might be willing to do. I would also be interested in finding a local
researcher who might help me find out about the family. Thanks in advance for any help, and
may your own research be successful!
- BURKE

- My name is Shirley BURKE, great granddaughter of Jessie BURKE, who was a slave owned
by Elisha BURKE in Phillips County, Arkansas. Elisha did not submit an inventory of his
property(slaves) and his wife Eliza and son Richard only filed continuation papers. Is
there another document that may list the names of slaves? I have been in contact with
Elisha BURKE's great-great-great granddaughter and she saw no inventory during her research.
Also, I understand that my great-grandfather, Jessie, was purchased from a man with the last
name of MILLER, who lived in Birmingham, Alabama. I do not know the county, nor township.
If there is any information that you can share, I would certainly appreciate it. Thanks for
your assistance.
- BURTON
posted by Will Cooper
on Saturday, November 26, 2005
- My mother, Jessie BURTON, was born July 23, 1915 in West Helena. From a recently
discovered WWI draft registration card I have learned that her father, my grandfather,
George Lee BURTON registered Sept 12, 1918 with a West Helena address: 319 S. 6th. The card
states his occupation as, "Heading Inspection - Pekin Cooperage Co." His brother Clarence
BURTON, who was subsequently killed in the war, also registered in Phillips County June 5,
1917. He gave his occupation as, "Street Car Conductor for West Helena Consolidated Co."
Would anyone at the Phillips County site know anything of either company or have suggestions
as to how I might find something about them.

- I've been on various sites to try to find links to my Arkansas ancestors. I know the
name of my grandfather, Bill HUGHEY, who lived near Helena on the Mississippi river and was
well-known for being the local fisherman. He was born in the early 1900s and died around
1985 but I can't find any records of where he came from and who his parents were. Noone in
my family knows any of this information and I'm wondering if you may be able to help me or
direct me to a place where I may find some information.
