From the census it appears that this was a boarding school as two other teachers and six students are listed at the same address. Does anyone know the names of or have information on schools in the area at that time? Also William C. (Claxton) LIGHTFOOT is enumerated on page two of the same census and living at the same address as S.W. SHIRELLE(?, physician. LIGHTFOOT's occupation is difficult to make out. In 1871, he married Emma J. HODGE. They later moved to Texas, where one of their grand daughters married a BAUGH, my great grandfather. I am trying to determine who Asher Columbus ALLEN's father was. Since he was raised by his grandparents, the PIPKIN's, I assume his father or both parents died when he was young.

QRYTEXT:Am desperately seeking an obituary, or any other information regarding the death of my Uncle Francis Bernard BEAM [listed as F. Bernie BEAM in the online Prairie County Cemetery Index.] Bernard [pronounced "Ber'-nerd] was born in Allegan County, Michigan in 1914 and continued to lived in SW Michigan i.e. Berrien and Van Buren Counties until the mid "50's" when he moved to Hazen, Prairie County, Arkansas. His move was a result of his second marriage to one Jean SANDERS/SAUNDERS, a native of Arkansas. I recall that Bernard/Bernie had adopted two male children (brothers) who would now be in their late "40's," or perhaps as old as 50. Bernard/Bernie was said to have been the owner of an Automobile Dealership in/around Hazen, although this may or may not be accurate. Bernard/Bernie was the second eldest son of Harley Earle BEAM (1881-1962) and Frances ROBINSON (1888-1964,) both of Allegan, then Berrien, then Van Buren County [Michigan] residents. Only two of his siblings remain alive - [my aunt] Virginia B. BEAM-NORTON of Jackson [Jackson Co., Michigan] and my father, Jared Earle BEAM, who currently resides in Van Nuys, Los Angeles County, California. QRYTEXT:Dr. Thomas Clay WILLIAMSON was married to Rhoda (Rhody) Cornwell MATHEWS (MATTHEWS) in 1864 and their son, Thomas Wade WILLIAMSON, was born in Prairie County, AR, that year. Previously, T. C. had lived in Bradley County, AR, and homesteaded there in 1860 with a former wife, Mary Frances WILEY, who died. In 1850 this physician had lived in Pontotoc County, MS, and the family returned to MS following the Civil War. Eventually, they moved to first, Indian Territory in the Chickasaw Nation, then to Pottawatomie County, OK, where T. C. and his 2 sons and daughter and her husband homesteaded to found the town of Brown, OK, which no longer exists, but which was about three miles from where Tecumseh, OK, now stands. Does anyone have any clue as to the Civil War service of this physician? I can't find him in MS, but have found his brother. Did he serve for the Confederates in AR or did he stay at home and minister to the civilians? He was born in 1827 in AL, so would have been the right age for military service in the War between the States. Thanks, mlbranson

QRYTEXT:I have a Compiled Service Record for a soldier who was serving in an Iowa Regiment when he died in the General Hospital at Du Valls Bluff. It gives his date of death, stating that he was buried the next day and gives a row and grave number. Is there a cemetery that was associated with the army hospital near Du Valls Bluff? I will be going through Prairie County on Monday, and would like to stop if it exists. I checked the cemetery list on the web site, but did not see anything that fits my information. I will appreciate any help. John ARCHIBALD was the soldier who died at DeValls Bluff. He was my paternal grandfather's uncle, and his regiment was from Wapello County, Iowa. QRYTEXT:Hello, Can anyone tell me anything about the ancestors of George Washington LITTON, b abt. 1826. This is what I know so far: married Martha I. JACKSON in Prairie CO 1861, his children (that I can identify so far include: James W. LITTON b abt. 1863; Laura L. LITTON, b. abt. 1866; Elie(?) LITTON, b. abt. 1870, and my GGfather Charles Lyspie LITTON born October 22, 1867. The earliest record I am able to locate on George is the 1850 Prairie Co. census enumerated with Elizabeth LITTON age 58, Green LITTON, age 27, Georgee, age 21, and another individual I am unable to read. I also have identified a Land Patent record in Prairie for George dated 1859 and one for Green dated 1849. It appears that Green died in the early 1850's in Prairie. Can you tell me who George and Green's father is, where he is from, etc. I have access to the Family History Center in Mesa, however I have exhausted all local resources. I will be going to England soon and I want to see if my line connects up with some English research I have found on the Web. Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Patra

QRYTEXT:My great-great-grandparents, Levi & Mary (RIGNEY) BYRAM came to Prairie County, Arkansas about 1855. Their son John W. BYRAM married Marissa Jane BENEDICT, daughter of Russell White BENEDICT & Sinia BURRIS, in Feb 1860 in Conway County. In April 1861 John W. & Marissa BYRAM had a daughter, Sinia Ann BYRAM (my grandmother). Marissa died when her baby daughter was less than one month old, and John W. BYRAM was killed in the Civil War, and their daughter Sinia BYRAM was raised by her grandparents, R.W. & Sinia BENEDICT. Sinia married George Washington THOMPSON in July 1878. In November 1860 John W. BYRAM of Conway County, his brother W.W. BYRAM and sisters, all of Prairie County, signed a deed to their mother, which indicates that their father Levi had died. I notice on the Prairie County website that Levi BYRAM'S name is listed in the deaths abstracted from newspapers between Nov 1858 and Nov 1861. Is there any way I can find out the exact date of his death?

QRYTEXT:I'm researching Ira E. HARTLEY and Magda M. BUSTIAN. They lived in Brinkley, Monroe Co. Arkansas and Magda M. HARTLEY is buried in Brinkley. I have recently discovered a Maggie M. BUSTIAN in the 1880 Prairie County Census. I have never been able to find a marriage record for them. Now I wonder if they might have been married in Prairie County ca. 1881. Can someone in the county please check the two courthouses for a marriage record. I'll gladly reimburse any fees and/or costs.
