I am a resident of Kansas City (Jackson County), Missouri, and I've recently embarked upon a genealogical research project for the surnames WOODFORD and WASHINGTON in Woodruff County and Prairie County, respectively. I've read with interest the Prairie County History website, and have the following questions: 1. Does the Cemetery Inscription Book contain actual inscriptions and/or obituary information for the persons listed on the web pages? How can I get a copy of the book? I am specifically interested in inscriptions noted for George WASHINGTON (multiple entries are indicated), Cora WASHINGTON and another WASHINGTON, for whom the given name isn't listed. 2. Does the book contain information on blacks buried in Prairie County? The WOODFORDs and WASHINGTONs included in my research for the time period 1860-1930 are black and mulatto. 3. Is there any information about the WASHINGTON surname in what was previously known as Lower Hill Township (now Biscoe, as I've been told)? I am seeking information related to a 13 year-old black girl named Cora WASHINGTON who may have become pregnant by an older man, named Charlie S. WOODFORD who appears to have been 29 at the time he fathered her child, Rufus C. WASHINGTON. (Rufus C. WASHINGTON is my maternal grandfather, b. 29 Aug 1895, enumerated in 1910 Woodruff County Census in WOODFORD household as "nephew"). The story I've heard is that my grandfather's mother died in childbirth, and his father committed suicide. The family history I have suggests that he went to live with his grandparents in Cotton Plant, Arkansas. However, my research indicates otherwise -- I believe that the 16 year-old Cora WASHINGTON I located in the Prairie County 1900 Census is actually my grandfather's mother. My theory is that she and Charlie Woodford conceived a child, and she later married Horace C. WOODFORD in 1904 -- Horace and Cora were in the Woodruff County 1910 Census (Cora was then 26, which makes sense). If Horace did kill himself, then Horace would have married his brother's mate (as was customary years ago), and raised his brother's child as his [Horace's] nephew. Ella was born in Saulsbury, Hardeman, Tennessee on 4 Mar 1852. Sebron was born in Tuscaloosa, Floyd, Georgia on 21 Jul 1847. His father was William GOLDING, born 1805 in South Carolina? His mother was Elizabeth LAURENCE, born in 1804. William GOLDING is listed in the Index to "Early History of Des Arc and It's People" along with a handfull of other GOLDINGs. William's father was supposedly also named William, born in Wiltshire, England, abt 1775. His wife was Martha JOHNSON, born 1777, of South Carolina. I am a descendent through Sebron's son Loren. QRYTEXT:My grgrandmother Sarah BEATY married John OVERTURF. They were in Mena, AR area before coming to OK. They both died 1899 and 1900 are buried in the Wanette, OK Cemetery. I can find no records of Sarah before OK. So maybe John married Sarah on the way to OK. Their son Pink OVERTURF married Thursa Mae NEWBY. We know nothing about the BEATY or NEWBY families. If anyone has any information I would appreciate any help I can get.

She came to Prairie County in late 1881, brother is John C. DOBBS. She married James JOHNSON in 1884, was widowed prior to 1887, she married my g grandfather J. Thomas in Oct 1887. They had several children, only known names are Erma or Emma, she married Frank DOOLEY in 1906. Thomas Fred { my grandfather was born in May 1897/98. Erma or Emma died March 21, 1914. DOB is 6/7/1868 Place of birth: Arkansas DOD: 2/28/1952 83 years of age Place of Death: Belle, Mo. Buried at Liberty Cemetery, Belle, Mo. Her father is named as: Joseph DOBBS; Mother: unknown. Does anyone know who she is? She lived in DeValls Bluff from 1881 to at least 1920 where I found her in that census. She married J.Thomas VANDERGRIFT 10/24/1887. My grandfather was born in DeValls Bluff 5/31/1897/98, his name is Thomas Fred, I believe he went by Fred as listed in the 1920 census. QRYTEXT:I am searching for several families that tie into my mother's family. My mother was Ida Mae LLEWELLEN, and she married Howard W. MITTS. My Mother's mother was "Mattie" Elizabeth THEDFORD (or THETFORD), and she married Charley LEWELLYN. The THEDFORD's lived in Blytheville at the time my grandmother and grandfather met, and her father worked for the railroad. That's all I know. I'm not even sure about my grandmother's first name. Mattie is what the 1920 Census said, but my mother told me once that if anyone ever called her by her real name, she would be VERY IRRITATED! She never told my mother what it was - just that Mattie was her nickname or whatever you call it. She was an educated woman - at the time she married my grandfather - approximately around the 1900's, she had graduated from college. I imagine that was a real accomplishment in those days for a woman. I would appreciate any information you have regardless of whether you think it fits or not. Smith died 4 years later in 1896 orphaning the children, who were mostly raised in St. Francis County. According to the "Index to Prairie County, AR Cemetery Inscriptions" it appears that Smith LEATHERWOOD is buried in Prairie County, but I don't know where or any of the details. QRYTEXT:I am researching the IRSCH family from Prairie Co. AR. My mother, Ruby Irene EATON was born in Prairie Co. in 1903. Her mother was Elizabeth Louise Adeline IRSCH who was listed in the 1900 census as Lizzie DAVIS, widow, sister living in the home of William Jacob IRSCH. Also living there was a nephew, a BOSTON. Lena BOSTON lived a few doors away/nee Mary Magdelene IRSCH. Also there was a Henry and Emma HILL nee Emaline PITTS close by. I find W.J. IRSCH, Willie IRSCH, Anna Lee IRSCH and Arthur IRSCH in the Cemetery Listings for Prairie. F.J. IRSCHM but does not give the cemetery info. Would appreciate any info.

He suddenly died in 1896 while a JP and is buried in Des Arc. I have a lot of Info on the IRBY side (much) but need help on the MOORE side. Since both John C. MOORE and his wife, Cora, die young, I have very little info on John. Does anyone have any information here? I have found his marriage record which says he was born about 1859 and what appears to be his grave in Des Arc but no info as to where he was from in Tn.

John went to the pen for about 5yrs for a crime he did not commit. After he got out he ended up in a train car & was crushed to death when logs was loaded on top of him. QRYTEXT:I am seeking additional information on William S. RASCOE, his parents, ancestors, and descendants. Also need the date of his death and place of burial. William S. RASCOE was born somewhere in the State of North Carolina according to the 1850 & 1860 censuses. He was living in Fayette County, Tennessee by October of 1846. There he married William H. F. ABINGTON on October 21, 1846. They are listed in the 1850 Census of Fayette County, Tennessee. William S. RASCOE was in Prairie County, Arkansas by 1855. On January 11, 1856 he received a Federal land grant of 40 acres in section 13, township 4 north, range 7 west, near Hickory Plains in Prairie County, Arkansas. During the War Between the States, William S. RASCOE was a sargeant in the 25th Infantry, Company "C", Confederate States of America Army from Arkansas. William S. RASCOE and his wife had three known sons. They were: 1. William H. RASCOE born 7 Sept. 1847, died 15 September 1918; married Martha Emaline LOVE about 1870. 2. J. Thomas RASCOE born about 1854. 3. Joseph L. RASCOE born between 1853 and 1857; married Martha B. HOLLOWAY 15 December 1880. He must have died before 1900 as Martha is listed as head of household in the 1900 census. William S. RASCOE's first wife died between 1857 and 1866. He married a second wife, Henryetta STANDLEY 11 October 1866 and they had two children. They were: 1. May F. RASCOE born about 1867. 2. Albert Sidney RASCOE born 6 October 1868. and died 5 January 1929; married Mattie MATTHEWS 16 December 1897. William S. RASCOE apparently died before 1870 and Henryetta remarried some unknown person. This may have been someone named HARDEN or HARDIN. There were supposed to have been a son named Ed HARDEN and a daughter named Dessy. By the 1870 census all the younger RASCOE children were living in the household of the older son, William H. RASCOE. Any additional information would be appreciated. James R. QRYTEXT:I am looking for any information on ancestors or descendants of William Bill HALL, Sr. b. 1858. His wife was Mary Artilla (unsure of maiden name) b. 1865. They lived in Prairie Co. since at least 1900 and died in 1935 & 1932. They had a total of eight children, Lawrence, Dena Minnie (married KELTNER), Thomas Jefferson, Bessie (married NEIL), Eunice (married CAMPBELL), Willie Ethel, Erving, and William Bill, Jr. All of the children have died now, but I believe many of them lived in or near Prairie Co. most of their lives. William Sr. also had a brother born two years later, first initial of L. (I don't have the whole name). L. had several children including Birdie, Myrtle, and Benjamin. I am descended from Eliza Gill QUISENBERRY, b. 15 May 1847 in Memphis, TN., John H. QUISENBERRY'S daughter. She married Dr. Tucker when she was 15. John QUISENBERRY'S steamer "Eliza Gill" was sunk in the White River, AR. to obstruct the advance of Union gunboats in 1862. He had a heart attack when he heard this and died leaving Eliza alone as her brothers were off in the Confederate army. I believe Dr. TUCKER went back to Alabama, but I'm not sure. Can you help?

QRYTEXT:I am trying to locate the burial place of Elias FORT, who died there around 1886. His wife was Martha Ann Tindall FORT and she died in Nacogdoches County, TX around 1910. He had sons, John, William, Isaac, who all lived in Prairie County. He signed Deeds of Trust to farm land that belonged to Hamp MINTON in Prairie County, the last document being dated in January of 1886. His wife, Martha Ann, was never mentioned in any of the trasactions but she (alone) signed a Deed of Trust with the same Hamp MINTON in December of 1886. This would seem to indicate that Elias had died at some time between January and December of 1886. They were poor people and I am presuming that would have made it necessary for him to have been buried in a cemetery near the Hamp MINTON property. My problem is in locating that property. The positive side to all of this is that FORT family members have a devotion to marking their graves, so I am hoping that Elias's grave is also identified but I am not sure of that.

QRYTEXT:I am looking for information about my Grandmother Carolyn FRAZIER WILLIAMS. She was born Mary Carolyn FRAZIER on 21 Apr 1907 in Des Arc, Prairie Co., AR. I don't know her parents names. She married my grandfather, Ben Alfred WILLIAMS, probably in New York City, NY in 1944 or early 1945. In September of 1945 she was in Little Rock, Pulaski, AR. My father, Benalfred WILLIAMS, was born there. The only other information I have on my Grandmother is that she died in July 1972 in Joplin, Newton, MO. I know that William "Bill" SPARKS was married to Sarah Augusta OLIVER, daughter of Robert McKINNEY and Velairy Moliana (WELLS) OLIVER and then to Sallie L. OLIVER, daughter of William Henry and Hulda (WOODARD) OLIVER. I think he (William) married Sallie L. OLIVER after the death of his first wife, Sarah Augusta OLIVER. I came to this by looking at all the information from other OLIVER lines. I know Sallie (my line) was married to a JONES who must have died before the census in 1880. They had 2 children: Mollie and Nannie. But then I have Joseph SPARKS, Robert SPARKS, Charles SPARKS, Alba SPARKS, William SPARKS, Rebecca SPARKS and Opelia SPARKS. Who was the mother ??? Sarah A. or Sallie L. ? My Sallie was a SPARKS when her father William Henry died in 1888. She is listed as such on the probate papers. Any help will be a big help.

QRYTEXT:OLIVER / SPARKS connection. On my visit to Prairie County last week I uncovered what I think is the answer to the Sarah Augusta OLIVER and Sallie L. OLIVER marriage to William "Bill" SPARKS. Sarah A. OLIVER married him May 10, 1864; she died Jan. 3 1886. Sallie L. OLIVER was Sallie L. JONES on the 1880, census a widow living with her father and mother. I found a marriage license for William SPARKS and Sallie L. JONES dated May 7, 1886 (Book F page 472 1881-1888). So it looks like when Sarah died William was left with your children, he married Sallie who helped his raise his children and he raised her children. The answer to 2 marriage records for Sarah and William is unclear but I did find other names listed 2 times which leads me to think they may have been entered in error way back when they only came to town every few weeks.

They were to have gotten a prize as the oldest couple being married in a contest held at that time. But a storm came up and everyone dispersed, leaving my grandfather and his new bride alone, standing in the rain, and not receiving any prize. Does anyone recognize these names or this event?
