This list is subdivided into Resources Covering All Parts of Arizona available even if you are outside of Arizona, Resources Focusing on the Phoenix Metro Area (Maricopa County), Resources Focusing on the Flagstaff Area (Coconino County), and a couple of general tourist information sites. StatewideMap - If you want to see the relative locations and sizes of counties in Arizona, the Arizona Department of Commerce offers such a map through their Arizona Profiles which also includes information about many of the communities in Arizona.Vital Records: The Arizona Department of Health Services has a free genealogy web site. This genealogy website contains approximately 85% of the public microfilmed images of county or state issued certificates. Birth certificates recorded more than 75 years ago or death certificates recorded more than 50 years ago are available as public records. You can search the public records there and view images of original birth and death certificates in PDF format. You will need the free Adobe Acrobatİ Reader to view these images. You can then download the image and/or print copies on your own printer. Arizona Department of Library, Archives, and Public Records or by 'snail mail' Arizona State Archives, 1700 W. The Family History pages list all of the county records available in the State Archives (ie. birth, marriage, death, court, land, etc.). They will accept certain research requests by email, see the Archives division homepage for more information on how to submit research requests. The Research Library's Genealogy Collection is the second largest genealogical collection in Arizona. Arizona Historical Society - the Second Street Museum and library/archives are at 949 E. 2nd St., Tucson, AZ 85719, PH (520) 628-5774/5775. The Museum at Papago Park and its library/archives are at 1300 N. College Ave., Tempe, AZ 857281, PH (480) 929-0292. The Pioneer Museum is at 2340 N. Fort Valley Road, Flagstaff, AZ 86001, PH (520) 774-6272 with its library/archives collection held in the Special Collections Division of the Cline Library at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. The Sanguinetti House and Garden Museum and library are at 240 Madison Ave., Yuma, AZ 85364, PH (520) 782-1841. Arizona GenWeb Project - part of the USGenWeb Project, information as well as posting of queries and surnames being researched is available for many counties within Arizona. AzGAB - Arizona Genealogical Advisory Board, the state-wide coordinating organization for genealogical societies in Arizona. Snail mail address is P.O. Box 5641, Mesa, AZ 85211 Arizona Department of Health Services - Vital Records - this is the website for the state records office. It gives you all the information you need about how to obtain vital records (birth and death records) from them. They are the ONLY source for birth records less than 75 years old and death records less than 50 years old. Vital Records Info - where to write for birth, marriage, divorce and death records in Arizona. Marriage and divorce records are available from the Clerk of Superior Court in the county where the marriage license was obtained or the divorce was granted. A list of the county clerk offices in Arizona counties is provided here. Cathy Cox, Georgia's Secretary of State, has provided a State Archives Referral List which includes links to the archives for almost every state. Arizona Help List - a list of volunteers who will do simple lookups in Arizona county records, libraries, and cemeteries. State of Arizona Homepage - government offices information primarily, but also links to other sites such as Arizona Highways magazine. List of Some of the Records Available in Arizona - this is somewhat outdated (created in 1992), but is a starting place.
Phoenix Metropolitan Area (Maricopa County)Mesa Family History Center, 41 S. Hobson, Mesa, AZ 85203, PH (480) 964-1200 (Note: there are many other family history centers in the area, however, this is the largest genealogical library in Arizona and one of the best FHCs anywhere in the U.S. as far as size of facility and number of holdings). If you are looking for U.S. census records, they have a complete set of all extant U.S. censuses (1790-1920) and Soundexes available on microfilm.Family History Society of Arizona - Phoenix-based genealogical society, they have many chapters in the area. (Note: the link to the FHSA website has been removed as it is currently broken. It will be restored as soon as the new URL is found). Arizona State University Libraries or go directly to their on-line catalog. Maricopa County Homepage - offers both county offices information and visitor information.
