Building 52 (Power Plant, also called "Receiving and Shipping" on a sign now on the building) was the power plant of Traverse City State Hospital. It was built in the 1950s, and replaced the original power plant behind Building 50 which was designed by Gordon W. Lloyd. It has not been used for several years, but the equipment remains.

The building is located south of Building 50 and east of the men's cottages on Silver Drive. It overlooks grassy wetlands to the south and east. A railroad spur used to service the building. This building was built on top of the old State Hospital vinyards. Building 52's outbuildings include two gas tanks and a shed-sized green concrete block building.
