Building 88

Old Farmstead, White House, General Hospital

at Traverse City State Hospital

The building now designated Building 88 at the Grand Traverse Commons is the oldest building in the complex, even predating the asylum building Building 50 which was build in 1885. This building used to be where Building 50 is now. It was a farm house in its original location, but it was later moved in three sections to its current location at the southeast corner of 11th and Elmwood Streets so Building 50 could be built on its site.

At one time in its career, this house was the first Munson Hospital. It now stands unused, but in good shape, in the middle of a row of three historic houses. Building 88 is in the National Register of Historic Places.
