Richland Center Asylum

Richland Center, Wisconsin

This county asylum was later known as the county home, and is now the Pine Valley nursing center. One of the most striking of the county asylums, this building was designed in the "Prairie" style of Frank Lloyd Wright. While Wright was not the architect, he was born in Richland Center, and made his home several miles to the east in Spring Green (Taliesin). The ventilation steeple in the center is one feature that does not match the Prairie style, but was common on asylums and other buildings designed in more Victorian architecture styles.
