Our ancestors have wandered the globe, and often left us with only one clue to trace their

    What Does Dent Mean?
    Where Does It Come From?

According to one Surname Dictionary the surname Dent has two possible origins.
An English name referring to a habitation or places in Cumbria / Cumberland and
West Yorkshire, so called from a British hill name cognate with Old Irish dinn,
dindhill. It may derived from a nickname from Old French for dent - tooth (from
the Latin dens, dentis), bestowed on someone with some deficiency or peculiarity
of dentation, or of a gluttonous or avaricious nature. This name in France may
have come from Dentu, Ledentu, LeDantee a Brittany derivative.

If your Dent data connects at some point to the existing database, please include only the individual that is already in the database and your family from there. PLEASE indicate in your message where your line connects to the existing database. Please indicate your direct line as this is where your name and email address will be added. Do NOT include your notes.

          NO NOTES ?
This database is meant as a way for us to find others researching the same Dent families. Once contact is made, then an exchange of supporting data is appropriate. I do not want someone to visit this site, see "everything I have" copy what interests them and move on with no need to contact me or share their information. Neither do you. This is my reason for the no notes policy.
