Christmas breakup
at the
Australian Inland Botanic
Gardens
5th December 2005
Bill, our trusty
train driver,
checking we're all aboard and
safely buckled in
Just one of the many
vistas
we saw on our travels around
the gardens. The first planting
took
place in 1991.
When we ventured inside
we stood in awe -
The Australian gazebo
What
are they looking at??
Check it out below.
Here it is -
the seedpod ceiling-
just a portion of this amazing
creation by Lois Smith
It was a hot but
lovely day so
here we were enjoying ourselves
as we rode along with the
breeze
"blowing gently in our hair".
We're happy little
vegemites.
More
happy little vegemites!
Here's "The Pres"
(in the red)
making sure everyone
is
enjoying themselves.
After making our way
inside and
settling the "fights" over who was
getting to sit under the fans
!!!??,
we settled down for a most delicious
traditional Christmas meal
of meat
and roast veggies.
Father Christmas
never had
it soooo goooood!!
But that was not the
end of the evening,
we in Mildura do things in style -------
Tad aah!!! drum
roll please - (note
from the webmaster: "Sorry
you'll have to image the drum roll,
I haven't learnt to add sound to the page yet!!!)
Our yummy meal was
followed by......
the award night to beat all
award nights -
take a look.
There was Sylvia (OAM)
You would think that
having
received
THAT award from
the Queen she'd be
happy but she just keeps
on
getting more and
this one was the award for
receiving the most envy
awards
at our meetings
through the year!
Now, Sue -
she received "The
patience of
Job" award.
Given for her
services to the MDGS
as she patiently waits for her husband
to return from
doing this and that ...
and that.... and
that,
oh,.............and that!
Then Shirley -
photocopier
extraordinaire...
went home with
soothing balm for
her feet after all the hours she
spent on them honing her
skills
and perfecting her craft. (It looks
like she's wondering what Lyn's
given her to photocopy noooow!
Next, to Fay -
the busy woman award -
who said life slows
down when you
retire?!
- it certainly wasn't this woman.
She not
only goes
out looking for the
skeletons in the closet, but rumour has it -
when she
finds
them, she now
sings to them!!!
Then, Barry,
our assistant to "Bob (Tom) the
builder" received -
the trainee
apprentice of the year -
for holding, passing,
and fetching
Tom's tools. He's done such a
good job we thought he deserved
his own hammer.
Treasurer Mal is looking a
little thoughful.
That the last award?
No...there's more.
(I did warn you, we, in Mildura
don't do things in halves!)
Our last award for
the night
went to
member, Sharon, recently elected
to council. She received
the ....
"big ear"
award.
She will now have
plenty of "ear" for us
to "chew" on
after those council meetings!
but
wait.....
there's more!!
Since the 5th
Victorian Family History State Conference (2004)
held here
in Mildura, there's been some Hogettes
(Hooked on Genealogy tour participants)
running about town and making some noise.
And there we have it,
folks. What a night! Did we enjoy ourselves?
