Catching up with the Jones’ A family reunion
William and Elizabeth Jones arrived at Port Jackson, New South Wales in November 1825 on board the ship “York” as indentured servants for the Australian Agricultural Company, also in the same fleet and on the ship “Brothers” were Thomas and Ann Jones. Two brothers had married two sisters in England and after their time with the company at Port Stephens they settled around Vacy in the Hunter Valley.
Thomas opened the Settlers Arms public house in January 1832, whilst William and Elizabeth settled at a property called Green Creek on the Paterson River at Vacy. William developed a citrus orchard which was renowned through-out the district as one of the best in the Hunter. Thomas and Ann also purchased the 320 acre property called Kilburn further downstream and bred horses and cattle. The farm later transferred to William’s descendent's.
George Jones was convicted at Maidstone, Kent and arrived on the ship “John Barry” in March 1839 and after a chequered career married Tamar Manuel from Dorset and settled near Uralla, New South Wales.
A family reunion is to be held at the Vacy hall on Saturday 10th of October 2009 to celebrate the lives of our ancestors.
