PHIND (Personal History Index)

The Personal History Index for former child migrants to Catholic Homes in Western Australia 1938-1965, from Britain and Malta. Children were as young as three or as old as sixteen years old on leaving their homeland.
The Christian Brothers, The Sisters of Mercy and the Poor Sisters of Nazareth have developed an index that details the location of records held in Western Australia for former child migrants to Catholic Homes between 1938 and 1965.
PHIND will assist in locating records about these children held by Government Agencies and may also be of assistance to descendants of these former child migrants.

Children were placed in the following Homes:

New Email charges at the Library:
The Library is likely to begin charging for email access soon.  As a result of declining State Government funding, most
libraries are actively exploring ways to recover costs outside of their 'core' or what are defined as free services.

At this stage, staff are monitoring the amount of Internet bookings which are made solely for email, and this will assist in determining the number of computers to be allocated as pay-per-use.  An estimate would be 2 of the 5 public access PC's, with the remaining 3 being free for Internet surfing.  Internet access remains a source of information, but email is a form of communication and library funding criteria do not preclude charging for this.

There is no firm date for when this will begin, as the logistics must be worked out, and we would expect to publicise the change for several weeks first, but July 1 may be an option.

write to “Wills Clerk, Supreme Court of NSW, PO Box 3 GPO Sydney, NSW 2001. Send $36 and application on the appropriate form. Though this is the first increase for some years, the suddenness of the rise and the amount is
