by June Munro (E-mail: * June Munro)

John Cox (1765--1848) was born in Hanslope, Buckinghamshire on 11 January 1765. His parents were Samual Cox and Ann Jennings. He arrived in Port Jackson in February 1792, aboard the Pitt as a Private in the N.S.W. Army Corps.

Aboard the Pitt was a female convict by the name of Ann Brookes, who was born in Worcester, on 25 December 1773. John and Ann raised 4 children before they were sent to Norfolk Island, possibly between 1800/02. They were married in VDL in 1819.

In 1813 when the Norfolk Island settlement was closed, John, Ann and their children were sent to Port Dalrymple. John was granted 80 acres at Norfolk Plains, where he remained until his death in 1848. Ann died at Norfolk Plains on 11 March 1837, aged 61.
