Woranga State School No. 4203

Did you or any of your family attend Woranga State School No. 4203 on "Parkside" five miles east of Yarram ?
Did you go to dances there or play tennis ?
The Education Department purchased two acres from my grandmother for sixty pounds and the school opened in 1925 to cater for children of local Soldier Settlers. It closed through lack of pupils in 1943.
The building was removed to the Yarram Primary School site and unfortunately all school history, rolls, etc. were burnt in a fire there some time later.
As I attended the school between 1937 and 1942, I would like to put together its history with names of teachers, pupils and photographs etc. plus any stories of school happenings.

Volunteer Defence Corp

In the Yarram area

This was a "Dad`s Army" of men who, while not allowed to go to war as they provided Essential Services for the Government (sheep, cattle and dairy farmers to name a few) were very serious in their endeavors to protect their families and the local area.
They were part of the Army Defence during WW 2, had uniforms and trained in various aspects of warfare.
The VDC had a office at the front of the old "Strand Hall" in James Street Yarram.
Disscharge papers, photographs or any other information would be gratefully appreciated so that a small booklet could be prepared.
