You tried to post a message without being a subscriber
|
If you sent a message to AUSTRIA-L@rootsweb.com before subscribing, then your message will not be posted to the list.
Note that subscription is based on your e-mail address (the "reply-to" address in your setup). Keep this in mind in case you use various e-mail addresses.
See instructions on how to subscribe.

|
You used the wrong e-mail address
|
- AUSTRIA-L-request@rootsweb.com or AUSTRIA-D-request@rootsweb.com are used for subscribe and unsubscribe commands only. Any other messages sent to these address are ignored and do not get posted to the list.
- To post a message (once you have sucessfully subscribed) please always send it to
AUSTRIA-L@rootsweb.com.

You cannot subscribe
|
- See instructions on how to subscribe.
- Make sure the body of the text contains only the single word subscribe (no comments, no signature file, etc.).
- Check that the "reply-to" address in your e-mail program is correctly defined.
- If you cannot resolve the problem, contact the list owner directly.

|
You cannot unsubscribe
|
- Subscription is based on your e-mail address (the "reply-to" address in your setup). Keep this in mind in case you use various e-mail addresses. You must unsubscribe with exactly the same address you used when originally subscribing. If, for example, you are a CompuServe user and subscribed with your normal id (123.4567@compuserve.com) you cannot unsubscribe using an alias (fred@compuserve.com).
- If you subscribed in normal (L) mode, you must unsubscribe normal mode. If you subscribed in digest mode (D), you must unsubscribe digest mode.
- See instructions on how to unsubscribe.
- Make sure the body of the text contains only the single word unsubscribe (no comments, no signature file, etc.).
- If you cannot resolve the problem, contact the list owner directly.
|
|
Your subscription appears to have been cancelled
|
If mail sent to your e-mail address bounces (cannot be delivered), you will automatically be unsubscribed (without notification, for obvious reasons). Delivery problems can occur for many reasons (mail box full, changed e-mail address, network problems, etc.). Contact your ISP to clarify and re-subscribe. |
Hints and Guidelines for Posting
- Make sure the Subject: line is meaningful.
A subject such as Family Research is not very meaningful.
Try to use a subject line that is specific, e.g.:
Researching HINTERMEIER from Untersdorf, Styria
If you are a Digest subscriber, please remember to edit the subject line if you use [Reply] to send an answer. A subject line such as
Subject: [AUSTRIA-L] Re: AUSTRIA-D Digest V00 #52 is totally meaningless !
- No off-topic postings please
Austria-L is for genealogy in Austria -- and hundreds of subscribers want it to stay that way. No off topic postings about virus scares, current events, etc.
Always be courteous and polite.
Do not send personal, copyrighted or confidential data via the mailing list.
- English or German ?
The majority of postings are in English -- but there are bound to be some researchers in Austria that prefer to use their native German language.
Postings may be made in either language. If you don't understand a posting you can try to translate it (or selected words) with http://babelfish.altavista.com/
- Use CAPS for surnames
Please try to use CAPS for all surnames.
- Make use of the archives
All postings are automatically archived.
If you ever miss some messages, you can look them up in the Threaded Archive.
If you want to find a past posting, use the search facility
Please always try to do your homework before posting a query. See the Recommended Search Links
If you have problems that you cannot resolve in spite of these guidelines, please contact the listowner directly.
