Subject: Sandner vulgo Sandtner, Santner
Peter Sandner

Subject: Steinhofer in Baumhacken
My grandfather, Joseph Steinhofer, immigrated to the U.S. in 1908. His naturalization papers list Baumhacken as his home town yet we are unable to locate it. Are you aware of a village/city with that name? Stories from aunts and uncles indicate that it is possibly on the Hungarian/Austrian border. I am trying to locate that village/city as well as my grandfather's brother, Jacob, who stayed in Europe.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Subject: Samuel VOGEL and Katie KANDEL VOGEL
I am researching my father's family side. Both of his paternal grandparents came from Austria. Samuel VOGEL and his wife Katie KANDEL VOGEL. Galicia was always the place mentioned. Their only living daughter is going to be 100 years old this Nov. and I really haven't been able to get too muchmore info from her. They must have arrived prior to 1898.

I am researching my great grandmothers name was MARY MAZUREK from Poland.
The last letter we received from a relative was in 1959 from a MARIA GAJEWSKI from Saltzburg, Austria. As I understand it she was a cousin.
My great grandfather was HARRY NYILYK (possibly spelled NEILEIK before naturalization) from Czechoslovakia. However he lived in an area where the border was contantly changing - from what I've been told the only NYILYK'S in the United States are the ones in my family.
- MARY, KATHLEEN, EDWARD JR., EDWARD SR., NANCY, KELLY, AND LYNNE.

He left the Port of Bremen on the 3rd of October, 1855 and arrived at the Port of Galveston (Texas, USA) on or about the 12th day of December, 1855. Franz Josef POHL and his wife Anna Maria LEGLAR (LEGLER?) and their four children: Franz, Jr., (age 8) Anna & Sarah (twins) (age 5) and Anton William (age 11 months) arrived from Austria and settled in Fayetteville, Fayette County, TEXAS, USA. Later moving to Schulenburg, Texas and Hallettsville, Texas. I, also, need to know where in Austria that I could write for background information (births, deaths, marriage, Catholic Church records) regarding both Franz Josef Pohl and Anna Maria Leglar (Legler). If anyone may know of his/her surviving relatives in Austria or the USA, I would appreciate any and all information that you could send my way.

Subject: Strasswalchen - Jesinger
I am interested in researching My wifes family tree to try to contact other members of her extended family. her Grand father came from austria and many years ago we visited austria to a village called strasswalchen in the lakes, and met one of her uncles who has since passed away. Pepe Jesinger's shop in the centre of the village, in the square, with the cemetery up the stairs and round the back. we met Pepe in the summer of 1965 when we called, he died a few years later and I believe the shop was sold but My father-in-law had photographs of the shopwith the very large tree in front of the shop as a small sapling. believe that Pepe was my wifes great uncle. When we visited Strasswalchen we called in at the cemetery to find her Great grandfather's grave still there with a photograph of him on it but I believe it has now been removed. Please could you provide me with any information that might be of assistance.

It is written on his declaration of intention that he was born in Bartolovec (Crotia) Austria Hungary. Until I know where I am to seach, I am somewhat of a stand still. His name was Thomas (Toma) Moravec. He married a Katie from Celinco Austria. I'd sure like to find any relative of mine. His mothers name might have been Jelu or Julia Soltic and His fathers name might have George or Gjuro Moravec. He supposely had 13 or 14 brothers and sister there he sent money to every chance he could. Do you have any information that could help me?

Subject: Tyrol (Tirol) Ancestry
My ancestors on both my mother's and father's sides were Tyrolean. I am especially interested in the history of the Austrian Province of South Tyrol (Tirol) which was ceded to Italy in around the time of the First World War. My family to this day declares that they are and always will be Austrians--although the language is definitely an Italian dialect. Since I have found some relatives who are also interested in preserving this very distinctive, little-known culture, and have discovered some interest abroad as well, I am very interested in hosting and coordinating a site for this particular "country." Can you advise?

Subject: Odrati, Austria
Am attempting genealogical research of my wife's maternal family. The name is Brosch. Her uncle Louis (Aloise) Brosch stated, on his intention to naturalize in the USA, that he was born in Odrati, Austria. Can you give me any clue as to how I may find that location? The family spoke German, but admitted to having Polish blood. Louis' mother told of being Bohemian, all of which figures with the pre-1900 history of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. What source can I seek find that specific location? Thanks.
