Table of Contents
The purpose of this site is to allow you to determine if a certain surname is listed in one or more volumes of the Genealogisches Handbuch des Adels. It is recommended that you start by searching. When defining your search criteria, please keep in mind that the names have (wherever possible) been indexed in their official spelling, i.e. Görtz rather than Gortz or Goertz. If you do not know how to enter certain special characters using your keyboard, you can use soundex or wildcard searches.
The site is still being developed and improved. At this time you can determine whether or not a surname is referenced and, if so, in which volume(s). However, at present you cannot obtain a list of surnames for all volumes.
I hope that this index will be a contribution to all persons involved in historical and genealogical research concerning German speaking countries.
My thanks to the many people that helped, guided and advised me during the past weeks and months, especially:
Dipl. Kfm. R. Salem, C. A. Starke Verlag, for authorizing the project.
