Greetings to all The Arizona Council of Professional
Genealogists (AzCPG) was created to fill a need in our community to have a
forum where we can communicate with each other and exchange ideas. The
organization is for genealogists, family historians, teachers, writers,
indexers, archivists, librarians, lecturers, computer specialists,
geneticists, newsletter editors, and all others working in the fields of
family history. You do not have to be a
“professional” genealogist, someone who makes a living in genealogy, to join
our organization. We welcome anyone who is interesting in learning how to do
good genealogical research using the standard of ethics established by the
Association of Professional Genealogists http://apgen.org/ethics/index.html.
We will discuss, among
other things, how to start a business, how to create a website for your
genealogy business or your family research, how to promote a genealogy
business, and how to interact with clients. This includes non-paying clients
or work we do for friends and family. It also includes volunteer work we do
for libraries and historical societies, for example, indexing cemetery
records, obituaries, land records, etc. In other words, this organization
will be for those who wish to exchange ideas on how we might conduct our
selves in a professional way as we work in the many fields of family history.
We have a message board on
Yahoo Groups called AzCPG. To contribute to this message board you need to be
a member of our organization. Our goal is to use the message board to
exchange ideas. Membership is $5 a year. If you are interested in joining our
group, please contact our membership secretary, Janna Larson at Janna@GenealogyOne-on-One.com.
We plan to have a face-to-face meeting at least once a year. In the future,
we hope to have an annual seminar to which the public will be invited. The objectives of
AzCPG are: ·
To promote
professional standards in genealogical research, writing, and speaking ·
To promote the
education of the membership and the public ·
To promote
awareness of professional genealogical services ·
To promote
improved access and preservation of records used in genealogical and local
history research ·
To promote
awareness of activities and/or laws, which may affect genealogical and local
history research, including pending legislation in ·
To provide
support for those engaged in genealogical pursuits as a business ·
To enable those
interested in any aspect of professional genealogy to network together. Daniela Moneta, CG, |
